Scary New Cat
It’s officially fall. And it’s October.
Kidzilla has been dying to get out the fall decorations this week and we are now thick in the process of placing pumpkins, leaves, and other sundry items around the house.
The minute the calendar turned to October, Zilla begged to get out Halloween items already. OK, fine. But I am already tired of catching myself in the act of reaching out to pet this idiotic thing…
Zilla picked this thing out at our supermarket two years ago. She loves it. But it sits there on the half wall smugly occupying the same space where the real Rotten Cats hang out.
And somehow, for three Octobers running now, I mistake it for one of the real Rotten Cats at least once a day. Usually more often.
How ridiculous.
But it is definitely a source of entertainment for all of us…except perhaps the real Rotten Cats. They are not fans at all.
Here’s Cat Two after meeting Scary New Cat two years ago. He was not amused.
And here he is today, getting reacquainted. Cat Two’s opinion has not changed. Clearly.
Cat One had to get involved and check things out, too. Here he tries to intimidate Scary New Cat with his hulking cat mass. Perhaps being the fattest Rotten Cat in the house will be helpful.
And Cat Three wouldn’t even go near the wall. Which leaves the score at Scary New Cat 3; Rotten Cats 0. Game on.
Too funny. They clearly feel that cat is NOT one of them!
Definitely not. And how sad that I’m so entertained by their irritation with the silly thing. Poor kitties. 🙂
We have one very similar to that one! Our old cat, Harryboy, paid it no mind but our new cat, Aria, is so neurotic that I don’t think I’ll be busting that thing out this year!
Well, that’s Cat Three – he’s way too weird to engage in any encounters with the Scary Cat. Definitely our crazy boy.
I think I need to get one of those just to see how my cats react to it! I know they will hate it, which makes me wonder why I find amusement in making my animals freak out. I’m a bad cat mommy.
I’m in the bad cat mommy club, too. I love them to death, but I am wildly entertained by their irritation at things like this. They crack me up. This silly Halloween cat was way worth whatever we paid for it. And the fact that it’s black and all three of ours are black is just too much.
Ah, cat’s and they’re funny behavior. Mine would probably sniff it a while and look up at me in disapproval. She might even hiss at it. That’s just how she rolls.
Our three definitely disapprove. But it’s fun watching them be annoyed. 🙂
That is awesome! You should see my cats when Ethan practices his trumpet…
Oh I’ll bet they just line up to listen!
looks as though rotten cats see fake rotten cat as competition. hmmm…
Or the new boss cat.
OMG Scary New Cat is righteously scary. Maybe the rotten cats feel kicked down a notch or two.
I think that has to be it, because basically they leave it alone and just skulk around it nervously.
How funny! On reading this, my main question was how often does the decoration end up on the floor? Both my cats would not tolerate something sitting in their spot, especially a fake cat!
Oddly, they don’t knock it onto the floor at all. They don’t actually touch the fake Scary Cat at all. It’s so weird.
the look on your cat’s face is classic – he wants nothing to do with that imposter.
yay for FALL! love your little pumpkins next to the kitty. any time pumpkins are around (real or fake!) I automatically feel cozy 🙂
That’s the part I love – the facial expressions on the Rotten Cats.
And I agree – fall and pumpkins equals cozy.
Too funny!! Although I don’t think it would last long in our house… our cat is very protective of his territory…
I really don’t know what ours think of it…I’m kind of surprised Cat One hasn’t batted him off the wall since he does that to everything else!
Hahaha! Trying to pet a fake cat is definitely something I would do.
I love that the rotten cats are so befuddled by the new, non moving, addition to their clan.
What’s amazing is how many times a day I do it. I guess I’m just used to petting anything black and furry that moves in this house.
