Worst Wordless Wednesday Ever
So, I promised Lizzi I’d post a video of a song I mentioned in comments somewhere the other day. It’s from the play Pippin and it’s a snappy little tune called “Spread a Little Sunshine.” And there should be a video for Lizzi to watch right…
…here.
But there is no video. Because for the first time ever, YouTube failed me.
I searched and searched and the only videos of this song I could find were very not amazing high school productions with horrible sound quality. I did find a version with Chita Rivera that was pretty cool, but it was definitely not the entire song and so the effect was really kinda lost.
So, here’s the best I could do…lyrics. Yeah, all words. On a Wordless Wednesday. Because that’s how we roll here.
“Spread a Little Sunshine” from Pippin for Lizzi…
Back in my younger days, when things were going wrong
I might sulk, I might pout
Now I’ve learned if I just pitch in and do what’s right
Things will always work out
And if we all could spread a little sunshine
All could light a little fire
We all would be a little closer
To our heart’s desireLord knows we’ve seen enough troubles already, we’ve
Had our fill of grey skies
So put down the vinegar, take up the honey jar
You’ll catch many more flies
And if we all could spread a little sunshine
All could think before we strike
We all would be a little closer
To the world we’d likeI know the parables told in the holy book
I keep close on my shelf
God’s wisdom teaches me when I help others, I’m
Really helping myself
And if we all could spread a little sunshine
All could lend a helping hand
We all would be a little closer
To the promised land.
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Now. If you want to hear a good audio recording and you happen to use spotify.com, go there and search for the song title. You can listen to the Leland Palmer original from 1972 or Charlotte D’Amboise from the new Broadway cast. The D’Amboise is also on soundcloud.com, but I couldn’t locate the Palmer. (And…shameless plug for the Fab Hub…while you’re on Spotify or SoundCloud, you can listen to the Fab Hub’s stuff!)
So just under the wire, there’s my Wordless Wednesday post. Now I have to get back to catching up on my reading for the week, finishing the seven post drafts I have going at the same time (not one near completion), and getting more sleep than I did last night.
Ugh, I am in the middle of trying to upload a video (of me!!!) to a blog post and failing miserably. Poop on blogger!
Blogger hates me – kicks me off people’s blogs all the time when I try to leave comments. Boo.
YouTube so rarely fails us. I fully understand your frustration.
I love how you roll. Keep doing it! You rebel!
Yeah, that’s me! Honestly, the ONE thing I really wanted to be there…and no.
Aw, that’s a great song from Pippin! Haven’t heard it in probably 30 years! Thanks for the memory.
I know, at least that long! And it just popped right into my head out of nowhere.
Oh, I hate when Youtube doesn’t have the clip for something you want. How does that even happen considering how many hours and hours of footage they have? Anyway, I couldn’t resist looking myself and tried to find something to watch and really couldn’t find much either, I feel your pain.
First world problems, right? 🙂
Very cool lyrics indeed 😀 Thank you for trying so hard for me – sorry it mucked up your wordless post.
Eh, it was fun trying!
Awesome lyrics to this song! It’s just the sort of positive message I need to hear every day. Thanks for sharing.
Especially the doo doo doo doo doo part. 🙂 They really are pretty cool. I think in the context of the play, there’s a bit of an unsavory suggestive undertone, but by itself, there’s nothing but sunshine there. 🙂
