First Word of 2014
Hello, friends. Welcome to 2014!
I’m not quite ready to dive into my new year of posting just yet – I’ve still got some thinking to do. But I am ready to commit to my One Word for 2014 so I can at least put that out there – mostly for me, but if it offers anyone else a little something positive, that’s OK, too.
Last year I stumbled upon the One Word 365 thing and I was immediately intrigued. Better than resolutions, it provides the opportunity to choose just one word to describe who you are, who you want to be, something you want to define your life…whatever.
One word. Simple. Doable. I like it.
I did it last year, but I think my concept was far too broad. This year, I’m choosing the same word: Focus. But I am actively working to make that less broad and more specifically defined. Seems appropriate that I need to focus my Focus, I guess.
I’m still working through a lot of ideas, but while I do, check out these posts from the One Word 365 community. I’ve already found these to be very helpful in both big and small ways.

I’ll be posting soon with more about my 2014 word – Focus. Until then, tell me how you’re starting 2014. Have you made resolutions or plans? Set goals? Chosen a word or a concept to focus on?

Happy New Year!
And to you! 🙂
Thanks!
For the One Word links? I thought you might like them. 🙂
I love the concept of the one word. When I racked my brain for a word, a phrase kept coming into my mind, though. Put yourself out there. I guess I have a phrase. I need to work on putting myself out there. For friends. For family. For work. To live. To face my fears. That’s going to be my intent for the new year.
Isn’t the concept a great one? I love it – and you can do so much with it, really. I think a phrase can work just as well and if that’s what comes to mind, go with it! Or maybe you can put the phrase into a word. Is putting yourself out there being present? or is it confidence? or is it risk? No matter what way you spin it, the idea works!
This is definitely a great word to go by, Lisa! To have focus is always important. I may also add perspective, which goes with focus I guess. Wishing you all the best for 2014!
That is also a good word, Stephanie. For me, focus is huge. I have ADHD, my daughter has ADHD, my husband has ADD…and that’s just the beginning of our crazy life! What I like about this word is that I will be able to split it out different ways and use that umbrella concept. I’m getting pretty excited about it!
Focus! More than my One Word I need to try to make this a lifestyle!
Oh, yes…me too, May! This one needs so much work that I’m back for another round this year! What I like is that this is going to cover so many areas of my life that I want to work on. It’s the right choice.
I am focusing on generosity. I’ve spent a lot of time on the receiving end of generosity, and now I’m in the position to BE generous. But generosity entails some letting go, which can be tough.
I read your post on that already – I loved it. The ideas you presented about being generous…except when we aren’t…were great. Made me think about that quite a bit. It’s so true. Looking forward to seeing more about your year of generosity!
