Five Friday Favorites with the Rotten Cats
Now that the Rotten Cats are blog stars, they’ve decided they would like to be featured more regularly here on the blog. They brought their demands to the table and we sat down this evening to negotiate terms.
Their terms were simple: put us on the blog or we’ll claw the carpet. Too little, too late my furry black demons. You have already played that trump card. Try again.
And so I sent them away from the table to go about their business. They spent the next hour or two picketing the dining room and making it impossible for me to get anything written. So I caved and decided to allow them to help with Friday Favorites.
Rotten Cat Favorite #1: Making silly faces for the camera. These boys really know how to take a mug shot.
I think it is only fair to say here that in both cases, the Rotten Cats were not actually mugging for the camera, but staring disturbingly adoringly at me. They love me that much.
Rotten Cat Favorite #2: Decorating the Christmas tree. OK, maybe the more accurate favorite here is sleeping underneath the Christmas tree that the People decorated for the sole purpose of providing a place for Rotten Cats to hang out and snooze.
Cat Two is enjoying a little nap near the lights. When Cat One found out Cat Two might make it onto the blog, he wanted in on that action.
Notice how subtly he blends into the background so he doesn’t appear selfish and attention hungry. And look how sweet and gentle he looks gazing affectionately at his brother. Now that’s Christmas spirit!
Rotten Cat Favorite #3: Wrapping presents. Rotten Cats love wrapping presents because Rotten Cats love playing with ribbon. Cat One is especially fond of this game.
One of their favorite ways to play is to have Cat One pick up the ribbon in his mouth and drag it around the house while Cats Two and Three Chase after it. Fun for everyone! For a fun holiday variation, they play Chase the Greenery and Annoy Super Aunt. Every year, Super Sister/Aunt comes to our house for tree decorating and her annual chore of decking our hallway banister with greenery, stockings, and whatever clever extra we happen to grab that year. (The Rotten Cats favorite is garland stars.) Cats Two and Three chase the end of the greenery garland as she wraps the banister. Cat One, however, is in charge of quality control, always sitting just a step or two above Super Aunt to make sure she gets the decorations just right. Rotten Cats can be very helpful.
Rotten Cat Favorite #4: Playing with Kidzilla. No matter what Zilla is doing, the Rotten Cats are not too far away. They absolutely love her and have lately started to get right in the thick of things when she’s playing. Here they are checking out the underside of her new art easel.
It didn’t take long for Cat One to end up inside one of those storage bins. If there is anything in the near vicinity that even closely resembles a box, a Rotten Cat will find his way into it.
Rotten Cat Favorite #5: Playing holiday games. Cat Three wanted to play some holiday games this week so he got out Zilla’s Hanukkah dog and waited patiently for someone to start a game of dreidel.
They had a pretty intense game going here. Wonder what they spin for since chocolate gelt would be detrimental to their health?
Bonus Favorite!
Favorite thing the Rotten Cats left behind on the floor after their evening of holiday fun and games: A Drunken Lamb Chop.
Looks like somebody may have sampled the fruitcake. Poor Lamb Chop. Maybe the Rotten Cats are just terrific party animals and he is not.
Special thanks to the Rotten Cats for their help with this edition of Friday Favorites. Please show your appreciation and share your favorites for the week in the comments.
Happy weekend, everyone!
I think the Rotten Cats are adorable. I love the look Rotten Cat One is giving his brother from underneath the tree! Mischief!
I know – I thought that was a spectacular photo op. Cat One can’t stand not being the center of attention. Such a brat.
My favorites are:
Hanukkah dog
Drunken Lamb Chop
I never knew there was a Hanukkah dog. I learn something new every time I come over here!
We have a little Hanukkah bear as well. They come out to play with our little stuffed reindeer. Everyone has a grand time!
Drunken Lamb Chop is my hands-down favorite.
Oh Rotten Cats! I’m so glad you’re forcing your way… err suggesting that you be featured more on the blog. I still can’t tell them apart…
Oh come on…Cat One is the black one, Cat Two is the black one, and Cat Three is the black one. Easy! Love, the Rotten Cats.
