Happy Birthday, Rotten Cats!
The Rotten Cats are having a birthday celebration this month.
I can’t even begin to imagine how it is possible that I care when three Rotten Cats have a birthday. And yet here I am, telling the world that it’s Rotten Cat Birthday Month.
When Fab Hub and I added Cat One and Cat Two to our household, they were about nine months old. Mother of Rotten Cats was a stray, so their Kitty Foster Mom didn’t know exactly when they were born, but figured it was sometime in February.
Here’s a photo Kitty Foster Mom sent us of all three Rotten Cats when they were very little Rotten Kittens. Based on their current shapes and particular features, we think the photo shows Cat One at the left, Cat Two at the top in the middle, and Cat Three at the right. (Or, Cat One is the black one, Cat Two is the black one, and Cat Three is the black one.)
When we took them to their first Vet visit, we needed to provide a date of birth. We went with February 2nd because…why not? We figured 2-2 was easy to remember. And so February 2nd became the birth date of the Rotten Cats. When Cat Three joined the family a month later, he got the same birth date because they were all litter mates, after all.
Much like the rest of us in this house Me and Kidzilla, the Rotten Cats celebrate their birthday all month long. Seems fair since we just guessed about their actual birth date. Maybe they figure if they celebrate all month long, they’re bound to hit the right date at some point. Here’s how they spend their time..
Helping with some blog writing.
Decorating with fine art. If you recall, not long after Hurricane Sandy, we caught Cat Three adjusting the art, but couldn’t catch a photo. Well, this time, we have photo proof that he takes his fine art very seriously.
Keeping warm with my a fuzzy blanket on chilly winter days.
Perfecting some reading skills.
Enjoying the great outdoors…from inside, of course. The Rotten Cats are fascinated with the open field behind our house…but only from a safe distance and behind a screen. But they’ll sit for hours watching, listening, and smelling everything that happens out there.
Practicing hiding skills to prepare for the big surprise party. This Rotten Cat was really insulted when I told him he was very bad at hiding.
And getting a nice start to their suntans. Always smart to protect delicate skin from too much sun exposure.
Most of the time, they drive me insane. But they really are pretty entertaining. And they do have some useful household skills to offer. Overall, despite their general annoying qualities, they are pretty sweet. Nothing quite like a warm cat on cold feet or a persistent nudge of affection when you’re having a bad day. And it’s nice to have one or two of them for company on my hundred trips down the hall to check on Kidzilla every night.
Maybe we’ll let them stay another year. As long as they don’t expect cake.
Happy birthday, Rotten Cats!
The art adjuster is a very talented Rotten Cat. Made me laugh!
I will let Cat Three know you appreciate his artistic aesthetic. 😉
HBD Rotten Cats!
I love cats because they try so hard to be sneaky but they always get caught. They are inadvertently funny. Enjoy your cats this month, and I will do my part to enjoy them from my computer, while I continue to convince my husband that A) we need a cat, and B) he is not THAT allergic to them.
Tell him the Fab Hub is allergic to cats…seems he’s developed an immunity over time. Maybe that will help!
Yay! Happy birthday, Rotten Cats!
Meow. Meow. Meow. Pretty sure that’s thanks from all three!
I love these pics! My Amazing cat, Mittens (yes, she has white ones…) sits behind the curtain thinking we can’t see her, with black tail curled below, just like yours.
Hope the Rotten cats got their fair share of birthday goodies? Huge ‘strokings’ are flying across the pond to them all, right now.
That’s their favorite present – attention! They are a funny crew, aren’t they?
Happy birthday to all the Rotten Cats! Our litter mates are Naughty Bunnies. I wish I could catch them in the act of some of their pranks to compare. But hopping is a fast activity and so far all my action photos are just streaks.
Funny bunnies! If you do manage to catch them at their antics, those would be some pretty great photos!
I am such a cat person so I loved this post. In fact, my cat is sitting next to me right now as I’m typing this. My cat does the same thing as yours by watching the great outdoors from a safe distance. Actually I don’t even understand it. She is fascinated by looking outside, but if I take her anywhere near the opening of the door, she jumps away and hides. Loves looking at the outside, but doesn’t want to go out there at all. Oh well, maybe it’s an indoor cat thing.
Happy birthday to your cats.
Definitely an indoor cat thing. Ours do the same – if we take them anywhere near the open front door, they take off in the other direction. I think they know they have it too good here to leave!
I really loved the post. It made me feel better than my cat is not the only one that has a penchant for art. Mine likes to go underneath the frames. How very helpful she is.
I also really appreciated the fact that you called them rotten cats. I think that so often about my own. How liberating to be able to say it out loud.
Hi, Tammy! They really are rotten, aren’t they? Mine get into all sorts of trouble and drive me absolutely crazy. But there are pretty loveable, too. Glad to know mine aren’t the only ones who pull weird tricks. 🙂
[…] is the Rotten Cats’ birthday. It is. They are six years old […]
Look they made it another couple years! Happy birthday Rotties!!
Haha – yes, they have been permitted to continue to torture me for some time since this one. 😀 They are nine now – hard to believe. And they still act like idiots.
