Soup of the Week – Teaser Edition
I did not exactly think this week’s soup post through very clearly.
I had every intention of posting a new recipe today and invited everyone here for a soup recipe today. I tempted you with a lovely cream of broccoli recipe. But then I realized that I did not make any new soup last week while I was so sick, so…no soup today.
We’ll do broccoli tomorrow. (A prize for the reader who can correctly identify the movie from which that line is taken.)
So, for those who were hoping to find a recipe today, or just for those who are newer readers, instead of creamy broccoli, I’m leaving you with a selection of my previous Soup of the Week links to try this week.
These recipes are from a mix of sources – my own recipes, friends’ recipes, reader suggestions, Pinterest pins, magazines, etc. If you try them, be sure to come back and let us know how you liked them!
Enjoy!
Soup of the Week – Pilot Edition. It all started here. Get the backstory and three great soup recipes. I have Ina Garten’s Grilled Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons, Emeril Lagasse’s Portuguese Chicken, Lemon, and MInt Soup, both from Food Network Magazine. I also have a “fixer-upper” in there – Butternut Squash Soup with Chicken Sausage and Ricotta Salata Cheese.
Soup of the Week – Bridal Edition. Food Network Magazine‘s Italian Wedding Soup from the January/February 2012 issue (easily found on Food Network’s website, too). This was in honor of Super Sister’s then-upcoming nuptials. They are now married nearly a year…hard to believe.
Soup of the Week – First Summer Edition. No soup in summer? Wrong! Go here for Broccoli and Cashew Summer Soup. (Update – having an issue with the site at the moment…I have to wait for my resident IT Guy to get home from work to tell me what the problem is with getting on that website.)
Soup of the Week – Summer Squash Edition with a Berry Bonus. Here you will find Simple Summer Squash Soup and the chilled Three Berry Fruit Soup Kidzilla selected for her birthday menu last year. Leftover Three Berry Soup makes a great smoothie!
Soup of the Week – Creamy Basil Zucchini Edition. An answer to the question, “How do I get rid of all this zucchini and all this basil?” for when you’re tired of zucchini bread. Do people get tired of zucchini bread?
Soup of the Week – Creamy Kohlrabi Carrot Edition. Interesting bit of trivia: kohlrabi or kohlrabi soup are the top two search terms for my blog. Go figure. If you’ve never tried Kohlrabi, do it! This soup is decadent. I have a great kohlrabi appetizer over on Pinterest, too.
Soup of the Week – Trifecta Edition. If you want to make your own homemade vegetable broth from scraps that would otherwise be wasted, go here for what the Hub calls “garbage soup.” It’s the only way I do veggie or chicken broth now. You will also find another round of Simple Summer Squash Soup here and one of my all-time favorites, Roasted Green Pepper Soup. Yes, green pepper. Now go make it. More trivia: The website from which the pepper recipe was taken is the inspiration for the TV show Young and Hungry.
Soup of the Week – Double Veggie Combos. Edamame Leek soup and Carrot Beet Soup are on this post. Carrot Beet Soup has become one of my all-time favorites – Kidzilla’s, too.
Soup of the Week – New and Improved Butternut Squash Edition. Here you will find a link to my go-to Butternut Squash Soup as well as a new variation.
Soup of the Week – Snow Day Stew Edition. I call it Snow Day Stew. The author called it Nightgown Stew (terrific post). It’s actually beef stew with pomegranate-roasted carrots. I do not love beef stew, but I love this one. It has become our “regular” beef stew recipe. Easy and delicious. Go get it. And do click over to the original post from Phyllis at Dash and Bella because it’s delightful.
Soup of the Week – Lemon Chicken Orzo Edition. This is another one that has earned a place in our regular rotation. A classic with a twist.
Soup of the Week – Italian Wedding Soup Redux. Faster and easier than the Italian Wedding Soup listed above and I used kale instead of escarole. Perhaps the best Italian Wedding Soup ever.
Soup of the Week – Hearty Tomato Lentil. A reader suggestion from Tammy and some recipe splicing yielded this one. Even if you think you don’t like lentils, this one will warm your heart.
Soup of the Week – Cream of Mushroom. Exactly what it says. Includes mushrooms, lots of red wine, and butter among the ingredients. And it’s fast.
TToT – Sick Tea and Chicken Soup Edition. More of a narrative version of soup than a straight-up recipe. There’s a good old-fashioned homemade chicken soup in there, though. Good for what ails you!
Soup of the Week – Corn Soup with Roasted Corn Guacamole. Another reader suggestion. This was amazing. Good for Cinco de Mayo or any other day you feel like a little something zesty.
Soup of the Week – Philly Cheesesteak Edition. A Philly Cheesesteak meets a hearty beet stew-ish broth and lives in a sourdough bowl. And cheese. Lots of melted cheese.
Soup of the Week – Matzah Ball Soup. As my Mother-in-Law would say, “There are as many recipes for matzah ball soup as there are cooks to make it.” That’s pretty true. This is Matzah Ball Soup Our Way.
Soup of the Week – Sweet Red Pepper Soup. Another recipe born of the need to use an abundance of CSA vegetables. This most recent addition to the Soup of the Week club has become a fast favorite of mine. (Yes, I’m bad at favorites…everything is my favorite.)
So there you have it – a tour through my Soup of the Week posts and hopefully some new recipes for you to enjoy in your own kitchen. They all include the recipe or at link to the original recipe (please tell me if anything doesn’t work correctly), a little background about the recipe, and my adaptations (there are always adaptations).
Did you try any of these soups? Do you have any great soup recipes to share? Or a suggestion for a recipe to try here for Soup of the Week? Share your results, reviews, or recipe suggestions in the comments!
Lemon Chicken Orzo…. *drooling*
It’s so good, Tinne. We make that one a lot!
I can’t wait to try some of these!
There’s not a bad one in the bunch, really. Tell me how you like them!
NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!
I’m looking forward to a winter of soups!
Me too! I have several marked to try already!
I don’t know the movie, but the soup sounds divine!
Wasn’t that line by the Soup Nazi in the Seinfeld show? Soup is my favorite thing about Fall. (and Winter, if there is anything good about it, it’s soup). I’ll be looking up all your recipes. I may have shared this with you before, but I love butternut squash soup with Granny Smith apple and goat cheese. Total Yum
It may have been, Val. I never watched Seinfeld. I think you’re right, though.
Soup is good for so many reasons, isn’t it? I hope you enjoy looking through the soup recipes. Be sure to tell me how you like them if you try any!
Butternut squash with Granny Smith apple is often how I make mine – sometimes pear! And goat cheese is definitely good with that. I like how the salty cheese balances the sweet soup. Throw some great bread next to that and you have a winner!
Ah… this is even BETTER than your broccoli soup recipe!!! Look at all of the ones I never got a chance to see!! I am definitely pinning!
How are you feeling?
Praying for health!!
Feeling better – not quite over the hoarseness, but definitely more like myself!
The broccoli is coming! And so is the one I made last night – a surprise!

So many options! I think I’ll start with the Hearty Lentil and work toward the beef stew! I am a serious soup-lover!
Hope you’re feeling better, Lisa! (Have you tried hot chicken soup??)
Oh the hearty lentil is a great one – so is the stew. OK, I just pretty much love soup so you are in a good place if you are too!
I do feel much better, thank you, Shel. LOL – and yes, I’ve had hot chicken soup in many varieties over the last month. 😀
