Ten Things of Thankful – Thawing Out and Going Basic
No muse befriends, this week, really, friends – haven’t found much to post here. Maybe I’ve just been focusing my brain power on other projects this week.
Anyway, better late than never, here is my list of thankfuls for the week. I am…
Thankful that – for the moment at least – it is not snowing. Or sleeting. Or raining. Or freezing fogging. That has to be perhaps the most ridiculous weather phenomenon I’ve heard yet.
Thankful that much of the snow that has buried us lately is melting. Sadly, I’m pretty sure we’re far from completely finished with it for the winter, but it’s good to see some of it go.
Thankful that Kidzilla has such a thoughtful personality. Watching her write Valentine’s and “postmaster” notes and cards for her friends over the last couple of weeks was a joy. She takes such care and pleasure in making the notes and cards for people just what they’ll like.
Thankful that it’s Saturday. Does that need more?
Thankful for some sunshine. Too many days of gray really does have an effect on the spirit. I will be happy to join the Rotten Cats for a nap in its rays this afternoon.
Thankful that the Fab Hub put clean sheets and blankets on the bed before bedtime last night. Nothing is quite as lovely as a bed freshly made with clean sheets.
Thankful for a great soup recipe last time I did Soup of the Week – that Cream of Mushroom was outstanding. It tastes even better as leftovers and it has served us well.
Thankful that my family, while very appreciative of “big deal” meals is also appreciative of soup and sandwich nights. They are willing to eat something elaborate or something simple. And they never complain about leftovers – in fact, they sometimes request that something have enough to be leftovers another day. That makes me happy.
Thankful for Kidzilla snuggles on a weekend morning. Not a bad way to start the day.
Thankful for a feeling of conviction about steps I’ll be taking in the weeks and months ahead. I’ll admit to feeling mildly impatient, but I’m like that always. It’s kind of like at the end of When Harry Met Sally when he tells her that when you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. It’s like that. But all in due time.
I’m with you. ..I sooooo hate to wait! Words seem scarce all around this weekend. …relax….love the zilla stories. …what a sweet kid!
Sometimes words aren’t necessary, I think. Thanks for loving the Zilla stories – I do too! I have a funny one coming. 😉 And I haven’t read your lobster story yet, but I’m working on getting caught up this week!
its a pretty long story … I didn’t realize it …its part of the book so there was a bit of editing but it had to stay a certain length…
Looking forward to reading it!
Oh FIRST! HEEE HEEE!
Hahaaa – you are indeed!
I love soup night. There’s nothing better than soup on a ruddy day, just like salad dinners during the summer 🙂 It’s always so amazing watching our kids develop a personality of thoughtfulness and kindness. You have every reason to be proud of her! Enjoy the nice weather and the rest of the weekend, Lisa!!
I love soup. And summer salads are terrific – I love “salad bar” night where we all make our own. Fun!
Sometimes I look at my kid and wonder how she got to be so great – honestly.
Happy weekend to you too, Stephanie!
What a low key and quite thoughtful list of gratitude. The simple pleasures often are the best. Enjoy your warmer weather while you have it.
I feel pretty low key and thoughtful this week, Tammy. So I guess this list just reflects that. I agree with you completely – the simple ones are indeed the best ones.
Seriously, I know I have being having a hard time focusing somedays and totally blaming the weather, too. But like you thankful for warmer, thawing out weather and just hope for more of it now versus more snow and cold. Now once again wishing you a wonderful weekend 🙂
It’s been a crazy winter, that’s for sure!
Ohhhh but freezing fog is AWESOME and you can get some amazing effects in it, like glories and stuff. TOTALLY worthwhile.
But I’m glad you’re having a thaw.
I struck out (as you saw) for words/thoughts/whatevers. Maybe it is the season or the planets or something. Or just TOO MUCH WINTER!
I’m doing fresh sheets tomorrow. Can’t wait 😀
True, it does look cool. Do not enjoy driving to work in it…
It’s too much winter. I’m sure of it.
Hooray for sheets! Clean sheets are a definite mood-booster – even if your mood isn’t bad. 🙂
Love this simple list of thankfulness…
Thanks. I was mostly just trying to get it done and it turned out pretty cool. Like I said – basic. 😉
There are days I can’t think straight…so I make up for it by trying to think ahead. Not easy at all, so I’m thankful that can do it! Thanks for sharing!
I definitely think that can help, Michelle – I like having a plan in place so I don’t have to think hard. I find it especially helpful when it comes to weeknight dinners!
Fantastic–I loved the “freakish fog!” mention, which only horror master John Carpenter could depict to its best effect … because it was unbelievable and needs a Hollywood super effect company to express it and STILL THEY wouldn’t be able to do it justice !!!
AND I don’t know your daughter but she is a PEACH!
I also love clean sheets.
My new friend who is the author told me a GREAT story about the film “When Harry met Sally”–she got to travel to NY because of it ! what a coincidence. I will have to direct her over here to read your post–that is too much! Thank you for a lovely entry! jean xox
Yeah the fog was the weirdest thing ever. Especially in the middle of the day – one minute I looked out the window and I could see across town; the next, it was all shrouded in white fog. So odd.
Kidzilla is indeed a peach! 😉
Wait – your friend is the author of “When Harry Met Sally”???? NO way!
I am so thankful that winter is almost over. It is almost over, right? It really does make such a difference when the sun is shining. Everything just feels happier to me.
I don’t think we’re out of the woods just yet – still a month to go until the official start? I’d say we’d be very lucky if it didn’t snow. But it’s in the forecast again this week…
Clean sheets are just wonderful! I have When Harry Met Sally on my DVR right now waiting to be watched. I haven’t seen it in years. I love that movie.
That is one of my all-time favorite movies – still cracks me up after all these years!
CLEAN SHEETS! Why are they so heavenly?
Simple dinners are coveting here. We love soup nights, and even better: breakfast for dinner. YUM.
When Harry Met Sally is in my top ten fave movies ever. I love the soundtrack too! Harry Connick Jr. is amazing. Doesn’t hurt that he’s super cute, too. 🙂
It is a great soundtrack, isn’t it? And I have no idea what it is about clean sheets, but heavenly is a perfect word – it really is.
We did breakfast for dinner not long ago – great pancake recipe. I don’t know why I don’t think of it more often.
Why don’t I ever notice mistakes before I hit publish? Coveted. ED. not ING.
GRRRRRR.
soup (interesting how sometimes it’s an odd thing to form the central thought in reading a post)… having a cold, I am eating Chicken Noodle Soup (with toast and ginger ale) not because I like it, but it is associated with having colds growing up…and since there have been so many good times since childhood and the present, it must be the Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup, right?
Sorry you have a cold, Clark! Hope the soup and toast and ginger ale (ginger ale for a cold??) help you feel better fast!
oh yeah! in case you didn’t get the Memo, we know how to do italics in Comments now!
OK, so I need to know the trick…
Um, I need to know this trick, too.
Love Harry AND Sally! Got the movie for my oldest last Christmas.
So, I am thinking you could have called this the Cliff Hanger Edition. Definitely hints of more to come!
Harry and Sally are fabulous. Period.
Hmm…did I? It was unintentional but yeah, I guess it does kind of have that ring to it.
We had a couple of gorgeously sunny, warm days to melt almost every bit of snow. It makes me so happy. Sure, today we woke up to a freezing/snowing thing and a cold wind that stung, but we had some springlike weather. I had almost forgotten what great weather felt like. Spring will come eventually.
I love soup. Sadly, my kids do not. We don’t eat it nearly as much as I’d like.
Ah, clean sheets…wonderful.
Have a great week!
The weekend was SO lovely! This morning’s bitter cold and blustery wind…not so much. But yes, it has to come eventually.
I often make soup just for me and keep it in the fridge a few days or freeze it and take it out when I want some. Hot and Sour Soup, for example, my family will not touch but I absolutely love it. So I make a batch, freeze half, and use the other half during the week. I used to be the only one who ate soup around here, but over the last several months, the Hub and Kidzilla have become accustomed to having it around and I think we may have some soup converts!
“I am the dog? I am the dog!”
I’m sorry, but that hairdo makes me think of that line, though you are citing such a sweeter scene. I cannot love that movie more. I could quote the entire thing. And then on The Princess Bride…
Listen, I have loads of potatoes from our CSA that have built up because I hardly ever cook them. Do you have a fabulous potato soup recipe?
Ugh, I always forget to tell your blog I am not a spammer…
That is also a funny scene – “which one of us is the dog here?” “You. You’re the dog.” “I am the dog? “I am the dog!” I just love that movie.
Potatoes – hmm, yes, I’m sure I have a soup recipe. I love potatoes – if I had some here now I would make mashed potatoes right. now. I’m digging for a recipe for you!
Also, totally forgot to mention that one of the joys of my life is clean sheets. We woke up at 5:00 am Saturday morning, traveled to DC. Immediately went to in-laws because relative were in town. Stayed for dinner. Got home at 8:00. First thing? Put sheets in the wash. I’d been gone for ten days, and I actually wasn’t quite sure when I had washed them before. There are priorities, and there are Priorities.
Ugh, I am NOT A SPAMMER!
Soup, sun, snuggles, & a sincere kiddo are wonderful things to be thankful for. Sounds like a great week to me!
Soup, sun, snuggles, and a sincere kiddo are great reasons to be thankful! What a great week you had!
A low-key week, but yes, all around pretty great!
Someday, when I’m rich, I will have the staff change my sheets daily. BAHAHAHAAA!
Hmmm, a hint of things to come. I have a couple of ideas….
And I love soup. And “When Harry Met Sally.”
And napping in the sun with a warm kitty.
See, this is why we read each other! All these awesome things in common. Um, clean sheets every single day??? Oh my goodness that would be WONDERFUL! Now, if only there were actually SUN TO NAP IN!!! (shakes fist at the sky)
It’s amazing how many things we can be thankful for when we list them out. I’m also thankful that snow is going away. Actually since I’ve moved I haven’t seen any snow. But it has been unusually cold here in Houston so there’s that. I guess I’ll eventually be thankful when it warms up.
You know, it really is amazing. Even in a week when I’m sure that there’s nothing to be thankful for, I manage to find quite a few. It’s a great mindset to keep.
