TToT – A Big One
We have a big one to be thankful for this week, friends. Huge.
The Hub’s got himself a great big full time position! It’s the same one he’s had, but we’ve moved from a part-time/temporary status to extending the term to the year to full time. That’s right. Full. Time. Job.
That really ought to cover it for me this week, but I do have a few others. I’m going streamlined and without much fuss because frankly, I need a nap.
Kidzilla made it through her first full week of school well. A tiny speed bump or two along the way, but overall she’s doing great so far. We’re thrilled to be off to a good start.
I am thankful for smoothies. I’m convinced that my lack of smoothie consumption in recent weeks is a contributing factor to my inability to shake this allergy and upper respiratory nonsense. I mean, the allergy kind of isn’t going anywhere. But missing the smoothies means I’ve missed what I think are key nutritional boosts to my overall health an immune system function. I’ve been making sure to get them in every day for the last several and I do think they are helping a great deal.
I am thankful for the ability to take a nap in the middle of the day. One distinct benefit of no longer being in the full-time classroom all day is that while I’ve been so sick and run-down, I have been able to grab sleep whenever my body feels the need.
I am so glad to have the opportunity to volunteer at Kidzilla’s school this week. That was something I was simply unable to do before – at least during school hours – and yesterday was my first volunteer gig. It was fun and seeing how happy and proud Zilla was to have me there was simply amazing. I knew she really hoped for this to happen and I could see on her face that she was completely thrilled.
The Hub and Kidzilla have managed just fine with me so off my game. Would things overall be running more smoothly if I were functioning at 100%? Sure. But other than a few unfinished chores (mainly mine), we’re doing OK. And I have admittedly been pretty miserable at many points along the way – mostly out of sheer frustration – so I’m glad neither of them has locked me away in a closet until my mood improves. They’ve been more than tolerant. I’m not trying to be miserable – I’ve just felt so run down and would really like to be back to my normal physical state.
I had a great catch-up session with the BFF this week. Not seeing one another at work every day sure is different. But it will work just fine. We had an opportunity for a long-ish phone call, so we took it, my raspy voice notwithstanding. And I guess I should be glad that my voice has returned at least somewhat and my coughing has subsided to a tolerable level.
I am thankful to all of my friends – virtual and actual – and family who have checked in on me regularly to see how I’m feeling.
I’m calling that a list for the time being. Yes, it’s utilitarian and my post includes nothing of the visually intriguing variety. But I did my list. I’m certain there are items that should be on the list but aren’t…and that’s a great testament to the fact that there is indeed so much more in our lives to be thankful for than we realize.
And now I’m going to take that nap…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So much goodness! Congratulations to your husband and I love that you’re able to nap in the day when you need to and got to volunteer at Kidzilla’s school! I just signed up to volunteer at my son’s kindergarten (because I want to spy on him, I mean see how he’s doing AND I know that he may not always be super-excited to see me in his classroom but he is now!).
I really hope you feel better soon. xo
It is a whole lot of goodness, isn’t it?? Kidzilla loved having me there – I could see it on her joyful little face. I will never forget it. She asked if I’d still come to the library when she was in the big kid grades and I said of course. (Now let’s see if she still wants me then…ha!)
I am working on feeling better…maybe I’m at like 80% function now. Maybe. Getting there slowly but surely!
Yay for full time jobs!
Smoothies…oh I do love a good smoothie..I was juicing fruits and veggies daily but our budget grew too tight this summer. I can’t wait to get back to it!
Good-quality organic produce is indeed hard on the budget. I may be crazy, but that’s one thing we don’t negotiate on – I’d rather give up something else. Using these has had such a great overall affect on everyone’s health in this house managing everything from weight to RA to ADHD so I’m hesitant to back off there.
Yay for full time jobs indeed!
Hurray and congratulations! That is fantastic news! I’m so happy for you.
Are you the 3rd or the 4th person to mention naps this week? I’m thankful for naps, too!
I am definitely on the nap bandwagon – I saw that several people mentioned them!
And thanks – we’re pretty excited, too.
And it looks like it was a great week!! Here’s to more, Lisa!
Aside from not being able to get completely rid of this respiratory junk, it was a great week, Michelle!
Sorry you are not feeling well. My cure all for the cough, drippy nose thing is Vicks on the bottom of your feet and take your nap with socks on. Helped me so well, I don’t need allergy medicine any more. Congratulations to your husband on his full time position. I’m sure that was a stress you can get rid of. Wishing you sunny Fall days filled with friendship.
Vicks on the feet interesting…and bizarre!
The job thing is definitely a stress we are happy to move past. Looking forward to a great fall!
WOOHOO!!!! FULL TIME JOB!!!! I am just thrilled about this news Lisa!!! I can only imagine the peace it gives you both!!
I am praying for your health, my friend. It simply SUCKS to be ill. I too, have been struggling since my birthday with some kind of stomach issues that has left me achy, fatigued and just plain sick. I love that you are able to embrace the things you were able to do and be thankful for them!! YAY for the opportunity to volunteer during the day now! Yay for Kidzilla’s first week of school going smoothly! YAY for NAPS!!! (I took my share the past few weeks too- and thank GOD I was also able to enjoy that blessing along with you, dear friend!)
Praying you continue to heal, sweetie. XOXO
We all did a great big WOOHOO here, too! And then I walked around for a few hours saying, “wow, is this really happening?” Peace is a good word, Chris – it definitely eases our minds about a few things We were very much holding our breath, I think and now we can kind of exhale and say “OK, what’s next?” Things are starting to unfold in a very positive way for all of us!
Now about that stomach thing of yours – horrible. I’m so sorry to hear that. I think stomach issues are maybe the worst. I do hope you are on the mend soon…keep me posted, OK? And you continue to heal, too. Prayers and hugs to you!
Congrats to your hubby on scoring the full time position! How exciting!! I enjoy daytime naps as well! Being off work right now is awesome 🙂 Glad that your daughter loves school. Lily’s first day is this coming Tuesday, finally 🙂
Thanks – we’re so excited. We knew the position he just started had the potential for more down the line, but I don’t think we quite imagined it would develop so quickly. We are just so happy and so grateful.
Daytime naps are awesome. Period.
Hope Lily has a wonderful time!
What fabulous news! And what a relief it must be for all of you. It sounds like things are looking way up. Now if only we could get you healthy!
thanks, Tammy – it is definitely a relief and great news! Things are definitely moving along in a positive direction.
Yeah, I have no idea what this sick is about…it’s been a long time since I’ve had something of this duration that I just couldn’t kick. I’m packing in the fresh produce again, though (I’d fallen off my produce wagon) and I definitely feel like it’s pushing me back to feeling well.
Very cool about the job becoming full time. Jobs can be difficult, but having a sense of stability over time, very beneficial!
naps!! damn, there was a time when a could do a nap (pretty much confined to weekends and days off), but for some reason have lost that ability. I trust you have the proper giant quilt, which for me was essential for the nap. Giant quilt and a proper couch.
good sounding week
Hah, yes proper sleeping equipment is essential for good napping, Clark.
The job is great he is really good at it and he is loving it. Can’t argue with that!
Happy Napping. I hope you managed to get a few more in over the weekend, and that you’re feeling betterer than ever.
Your first item counts as all ten, the rest are added bonuses. WAHEY! I am so, so, so, so thrilled to pieces for you both. WHO KNOWS WHY THE WAIT…but thank goodness it’s finally happened, and I really hope that it’s a well-suited job for the long haul. BRILLIANT 🙂
I’m glad you weren’t locked in a closet 🙂
I wish I knew why the long wait. All I can think is all things in due time – it all feels quite right, so I guess this is what we were supposed to wait for. Whatever it is, we’re all thrilled.
weeehahhahaaaa! Congratulations! Hope you are back in the game completely soon! NOT to say you shouldnt still get a great nap in though!
That’s about the noise I made, too, Zoe! We are so thrilled and so relieved. It’s a game-changer.
Speaking of games, I’m trying, really. I’ve been smoothie-ing myself to death, it seems, but I think it’s working. Had a bit of a relapse this morning, but the Hub thinks it’s because I slept with the windows open and all the corn smut got in and decided to camp in my lungs. Waking up wheezing is NOT a good time.
I napped twice today. And I need another one…
YAAAAHHHHOOOOOOO!!! Great job news for the husband!! Congratulations to him!
Sounds like this leaving your job has already paid off. Getting to volunteer and take the naps your body needs are great. I have never been able to volunteer at school much at all. Maybe 5 times in all of these years. We aren’t allowed to bring little siblings in when we volunteer, so no volunteering for me.
I really hope you are back to your normal self before you write another TToT list.
That’s pretty much how we felt when we got the news!
The volunteering was great. I could never have done that before so I’m thrilled. And Zilla was so happy to see me there – worth all of it to see her little face! Parent volunteers can’t bring siblings to their duties at our school, either, but there is a great child care available, which really makes it easy. Not that I have to worry, but great for those who have little ones behind.
I hope I’m back to normal by then, too! This has hung on long enough!
Such wonderful news! Congrats to the whole family!
It absolutely is! 🙂
Excellent news about the job! Huge one indeed, so huge congratulations! I’m sorry you have been under the weather but glad you are getting some much needed rest (hooray for naps!!). Good to hear that your girl is getting off to a good start with school. Great week and I hope the roll continues!
Very excellent news, Sandy! I think naps were the #1 thing around all the TToT lists this week. They definitely help.
The news on the job front is just tremendous. And so well deserved after the long wait.
What a valuable volunteer you will be at that school. Someone with class management skills–whoa. Makes a world of difference.
It is time for those allergies or that bug to move along!
It really is tremendous, May, and the Hub is completely loving his work!
I had a great time in the library last week and somehow I don’t think corralling first graders is going to be a whole lot different than high school! 😀
Still hoarse…still can’t kick this!
That’s a lot to be thankful for. A full-time position is enough, but you had so many other things to put on here. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been a little sick lately, but at least that’s temporary.
Yeah, mostly allergy-driven and annoying more than anything else at this point. This too shall pass.
The full-time position is great and you’re right, Steve – that’s enough, but there is still so much more. We are truly blessed.
