TToT – Good Deals
It’s spring time. Finally.
With spring comes the draw of the mountain sanctuary and thus, the need for new hiking boots. Last weekend, the Hub, Zilla, and I took a lovely Sunday drive to an outlet mall near us to check out the boot store.
Not only did we enjoy a beautiful afternoon drive, but we found a beautiful sale.
I like to pre-shop online. Zilla does it, too. We figure out what we need, where we’re going to find it, how much it will cost and then hit the store. The boots I ended up with are precisely the boots I looked at online, but in a different color combination. The store didn’t have the color I wanted, but these were marked down from $140 to $39.99. Yes, you read that correctly. So they weren’t my first choice, but they were an amazing price, so I’m pretty happy. The mountain doesn’t care what color my boots are. Zilla, however, was thrilled to find that they had pink on them.
As a bonus, we found a pair of completely adorable classic work boots for Zilla. In pink. We looked at these in the fall, but passed on them. They were also a terrific price that day and so our girl went home with these…
The Fab Hub also managed to find a pair of good boots on sale. Not nearly as cute as Zilla’s but totally functional and appropriate for the type of trails he’s been trekking lately. No photo here – plain old black boots and a slightly dark room did not make for a good photo.
And so we walked out of the store with three pairs of boots and six pairs of outdoor socks for far less than what we would have paid for the price of two pairs of boots at full retail.
The super sales continued, though. I have needed a new purse or tote for work for months. But since I really do hate shopping, I simply don’t bother to go and solve the problem. I got tired enough of the old bag to head to Kohl’s the other day to find a purse. Kohl’s has awesome prices and if you can add a coupon or two, even better! I found a purse – marked down to about 30% of the original price – and it is stunning.
It’s hard to tell with the poor lighting, but that is a terrific dark red – almost maroon – gator-ish looking bag. Fear not – no red gators were harmed in the making of the bag. Totally faux, of course. But seriously, how cool? And Zilla noticed that it nearly matches the cover of my day planner so that was a nice bonus.
I also found a terrific oversized cutting board for the kitchen. I have one made of the same material as the countertop, but it’s wreaking havoc on my knife blades. Since I acquired two beautiful new chef’s knives just after the holidays, I want to keep them in top condition. And so for ten bucks less than the limit I intended to spend on the purse, I got the purse and the cutting board. Score!
On Thursday, thanks again to a great coupon and the use of my Retail Me Not app (have you tried this???), I scored two more great deals on a couple of summer shirts for Zilla and some HBA items.
Not bad for a non-shopper, right?
The Fab Hub once again makes my list of thankfuls. This week he realized my windshield wipers were shot and replaced them for me just in time for the three-ish days of rain we had here. Heavy rain. So much rain. He’s going to fix my burned-out headlamp this weekend, too. Really, he’s been powering through laundry and chores around the house like a champ all week.
And can I just mention one more time that this man makes the best cup of coffee on the planet? After ten years of marriage I am still amazed at how delicious his coffee tastes when I take that first sip every morning.
I am thankful to a small handful of people in our lives for bringing us some very good information that we needed this week. Suffice to say that the information is helpful, positive, and exciting. We’re hoping and praying for more positive developments to come.
I am also quite glad that the Hub and I finally grabbed each of the three Rotten Cats and clipped their nails the other night. They were long overdue and the poor little dudes were sticking to things all over the house. So now they are happy and we are all very happy that they aren’t poking us when they walk on us.
We are enjoying a much-needed and quite lovely Saturday at home with Zilla, the Hub, and the Rotten Cats. The Hub and I were both feeling a little under the weather this week. Zilla and I both had some rough days at school. We all got far less sleep this week than we should have. And so we opted to make no plans, stay up a little late Friday night, sleep in a little late Saturday morning, and just hang out at home together today. We’ve had a busy couple of weekends in the last month, and we have several more coming up. Today felt like a good day to stay at home in comfy pajama pants and relax together. Between us we’ve watched some movies, edited some music, done some writing, done some cooking, had a late brunch, and done some laundry…it’s been a good day.
And now with my list of thankfuls complete for the moment, I have some matzah ball soup to finish. What have you been thankful for this week? Share ’em or link ’em!
Have a wonderful week!

Back for more…just read Lizzi’s TToT and she has invited all to join her in acknowledging three things that made each of us a worthwhile human being this week. I’ve seen this before and I like it. So here goes…a little self-affirming addendum.
- I am a good mother. And wife. And Rotten Cat owner.
- I was patient with Kidzilla while helping her with school work. This is not always true. Our particular combination of ADHD and personality do not always make for a pleasant homework experience.
- I complimented the Fab Hub’s efforts around here this week. I am always grateful for what he does, but I know I do not always tell him so.

Nothing like a good sale, Lisa!
That’s true – and to hit several of them? Even better!
Argh, I forgot the three worthwhile things! I have not had the relaxing weekend you have had, but it’s been a fun one so far with more fun in store. Love that purse! What a great deal!
I hate hot feet, and I wear closed toe shoes as little as possible. I hike in my Chacos. I’ll trade having to stop and shake out a pebble for sweaty feet.
Isn’t that purse fabulous? I don’t know what made me pick red croc, but I love it. I kept looking at the blacks and browns – much more practical. But each time I circled the department, that baby called out to me. Getting bold in my middle-age, I guess.
I don’t know if I could be happy hiking with my feet hanging out – too afraid of creepy crawlies! We did get great socks, though, that among other things are supposed to keep your feet cool and dry.
I detest shopping too, and just recently was forced to find a new purse when my old one literally disintegrated. I love the one I found, also at a great price, lots of pockets on the outside for keys, cellphone, debit card, and such… no digging in my purse for essentials… love it! Yours is beautiful, very classy stuff!
You did amazing on your shoe-shopping adventure! Nothing is more fun than finding something you like at a price that doesn’t kill the budget. I think your new shoes are adorable… pink and all! So are Zilla’s!
We are great fans of “take it easy Sundays”, today finds me in a kaftan, hair unbrushed, blogging away and soon to start on baked chicken and rice for our supper. The furkids want you to know that they are unbrushed too! 🙂
I must add one to your list of affirmations… you are a powerfully good Words With Friends player… you kick my butt incredibly often, and I love the challenge!! 🙂
Aw, thanks for the WWF vote. I love playing that with you, Josie, as you are a formidable player yourself. I love a good and challenging match! You kick mine just as often, I think.
Today was a pretty easy day, too. I feel like we should have been outside in the beautiful spring weather but I was feeling a bit under the weather and so it was a quiet day inside. Kind of feel guilty about that…
Our Rotten Cats are also unbrushed – and doing their spring shedding! Ugh! There is enough black cat hair in the house to build another cat.
I am purse crazy – and I love your new one. I have to keep myself from buying a new one when I go out shopping. Every time.
Sounds like you had a good week! Your Saturday sounds heavenly. 🙂
It was a pretty good week and it flew by, too. As for purses, I hate them. I’d rather not even carry one but I have a five year old, so we don’t exactly travel light. OK, who am I kidding – I don’t travel light even without her. I usually just grab something when my last one dies. But this was too cute to pass!
*GASP* I LOVE YOUR PURSE! It looks like a perfect size too. I reeeallly like the color.
Great boots for a great price – SCORE. Love a good sale, but even more than that is my love for hiking. We’ll be doing quite a bit this summer and I’m SO excited. I could hike for d-a-y-s.
The purse is actually a “business tote” according to the tag. It’s huge. Plenty of room!
We are looking forward to lots of days for hiking this spring and summer, too – especially since everyone is now outfitted with new boots!
Oh, how I hate shopping! It has only gotten worse now that I have been into making do with what I have on hand for the past couple years. My two rules of shopping fit yours….the strategic hit (know what you want and just go straight for that) and buy nothing full price.
That’s the way to do it – in, all business, out. I have never quite understood the idea of “just shopping.”
Purse and shoe shopping?? I’m in!!
I really hate shoe shopping – mostly because I have terrible feet. But this was such a wicked good sale. And the purse? Well, it’s just awesome.
You managed to get your husband to go shopping with you? Pray, what is your secret?
Love the pink boots for Zilla!
The shopping trip was actually his idea – he wants to get on the mountain in the worst way and I have no boots. I literally walked right off the soles last fall. I said no hiking trips until I have proper shoes and the next thing I knew, we were boot shopping! And, I think he secretly likes shopping for Zilla. 🙂
Playing catchup here and on my blog. When I get there (caught up, that is) I am totally going to try out TToT. Ummm, maybe you can remind me?
Well hi, stranger! So nice to see you here! Not sure how much there is to catch up on here…I’ve been really taking a snail’s pace at posting lately. And I didn’t even DO the TToT this week. Hrm. But yes, sure, I’ll remind you. I’ll shoot you an e-mail. I think it’s the kind of thing that’s right up your alley. 🙂
Ha! We’re quite the technologically challenged pair, aren’t we?
Eh, maybe more like uninspired and/or focused on other stuff at the moment. For me, anyway.
That sums it up pretty well here, too.
