TToT – Good Deals

May 3, 2014 Off By Lisa

It’s spring time. Finally.

With spring comes the draw of the mountain sanctuary and thus, the need for new hiking boots. Last weekend, the Hub, Zilla, and I took a lovely Sunday drive to an outlet mall near us to check out the boot store.

Not only did we enjoy a beautiful afternoon drive, but we found a beautiful sale.

I like to pre-shop online. Zilla does it, too. We figure out what we need, where we’re going to find it, how much it will cost and then hit the store. The boots I ended up with are precisely the boots I looked at online, but in a different color combination. The store didn’t have the color I wanted, but these were marked down from $140 to $39.99. Yes, you read that correctly. So they weren’t my first choice, but they were an amazing price, so I’m pretty happy. The mountain doesn’t care what color my boots are. Zilla, however, was thrilled to find that they had pink on them.

As a bonus, we found a pair of completely adorable classic work boots for Zilla. In pink. We looked at these in the fall, but passed on them. They were also a terrific price that day and so our girl went home with these…

The Fab Hub also managed to find a pair of good boots on sale. Not nearly as cute as Zilla’s but totally functional and appropriate for the type of trails he’s been trekking lately. No photo here – plain old black boots and a slightly dark room did not make for a good photo.

And so we walked out of the store with three pairs of boots and six pairs of outdoor socks for far less than what we would have paid for the price of two pairs of boots at full retail.

The super sales continued, though. I have needed a new purse or tote for work for months. But since I really do  hate shopping, I simply don’t bother to go and solve the problem. I got tired enough of the old bag to head to Kohl’s the other day to find a purse. Kohl’s has awesome prices and if you can add a coupon or two, even better! I found a purse – marked down to about 30% of the original price – and it is stunning.

It’s  hard to tell with the poor lighting, but that is a terrific dark red – almost maroon – gator-ish looking bag. Fear not – no red gators were harmed in the making of the bag. Totally faux, of course. But seriously, how cool? And Zilla noticed that it nearly matches the cover of my day planner so that was a nice bonus.

I also found a terrific oversized cutting board for the kitchen. I have one made of the same material as the countertop, but it’s wreaking havoc on my knife blades. Since I acquired two beautiful new chef’s knives just after the holidays, I want to keep them in top condition. And so for ten bucks less than the limit I intended to spend on the purse, I got the purse and the cutting board. Score!

On Thursday, thanks again to a great coupon and the use of my Retail Me Not app (have you tried this???), I scored two more great deals on a couple of summer shirts for Zilla and some HBA items.

Not bad for a non-shopper, right?

The Fab Hub once again makes my list of thankfuls. This week he realized my windshield wipers were shot and replaced them for me just in time for the three-ish days of rain we had here. Heavy rain. So much rain. He’s going to fix my burned-out headlamp this weekend, too. Really, he’s been powering through laundry and chores around the house like a champ all week.

And can I just mention one more time that this man makes the best cup of coffee on the planet? After ten years of marriage I am still amazed at how delicious his coffee tastes when I take that first sip every morning.

I am thankful to a small handful of people in our lives for bringing us some very good information that we needed this week. Suffice to say that the information is helpful, positive, and exciting. We’re hoping and praying for more positive developments to come.

I am also quite glad that the Hub and I finally grabbed each of the three Rotten Cats and clipped their nails the other night. They were long overdue and the poor little dudes were sticking to things all over the house. So now they are happy and we are all very happy that they aren’t poking us when they walk on us.

We are enjoying a much-needed and quite lovely Saturday at home with Zilla, the Hub, and the Rotten Cats. The Hub and I were both feeling a little under the weather this week. Zilla and I both had some rough days at school. We all got far less sleep this week than we should have. And so we opted to make no plans, stay up a little late Friday night, sleep in a little late Saturday morning, and just hang out at home together today. We’ve had a busy couple of weekends in the last month, and we have several more coming up. Today felt like a good day to stay at home in comfy pajama pants and relax together. Between us we’ve watched some movies, edited some music, done some writing, done some cooking, had a late brunch, and done some laundry…it’s been a good day.

And now with my list of thankfuls complete for the moment, I have some matzah ball soup to finish. What have you been thankful for this week? Share ’em or link ’em!

Have a wonderful week!

Back for more…just read Lizzi’s TToT and she has invited all to join her in acknowledging three things that made each of us a worthwhile human being this week. I’ve seen this before and I like it. So here goes…a little self-affirming addendum.

  • I am a good mother. And wife. And Rotten Cat owner.
  • I was patient with Kidzilla while helping her with school work. This is not always true. Our particular combination of ADHD and personality do not always make for a pleasant homework experience.
  • I complimented the Fab Hub’s efforts around here this week. I am always grateful for what he does, but I know I do not always tell him so.
