TToT – Late to the Party Edition
Happy (end of the) weekend, friends!
I was really excited about the TToT 25th weekaversary party…and somehow I am here at the eleventh hour (oh, shocker) finishing up my list. Hey, somebody has to be the last to arrive, right?
I’m kind of drained and not feeling too hot right now, so this is going to be a down-and-dirty quickie of a list. But I’m doing it anyway and then heading to bed early.
This week, I am thankful for an odd and eclectic little mix of things…it’s been that kind of week, I guess.
Kidzilla managed to hold herself still and focus long enough to walk down the aisle as Flower Girl in Super Sister and (now officially) Brother-In-Law’s wedding. Whew! Kidzilla is in constant motion so this was a rather big concern for us. She did beautifully, though.
Kidzilla (and all of us) had a wonderful time at Super Sister/Brother-In-Law’s wedding. Personally, I dread weddings. Just not my thing, I guess. I blame the media and the wedding planning industry for over-hyping the whole process and giving women ridiculously high expectations of what it “should” be like. Nonsense. That’s a whole other post, though. They seemed to enjoy the way their day turned out and we all had a lovely time.
Takeout food from a decent restaurant. There is very little food left in our house. Somehow the “clean-out-the-fridge” week project (always fun – made a few really good things) turned into “we-really-don’t-have-any-time-to-shop” week and so now we are at the place where we have items of food in the house, but none that go together well enough to call it a meal. Mom brought takeout to our place and we ate with Super Sister/Brother-In-Law and it was great.
Sick tea. I am grateful to have my trusty old “sick tea” recipe on hand, as well as the ingredients to make it. I have been hatching something for several days…woke up this morning feeling really tight and heavy in the lungs and sound like Lauren Bacall. I don’t feel sick, per se, but I definitely think my body is at a critical point. I am hoping to stave off any fully-developed illness and so I’m going to make my magic sick tea, take my super-immunity boosting juice and go to bed.
A working thermostat. A couple of weeks ago, one of our thermostats decided to stop working and it appeared that we were not going to have heat in the house until we solved the problem. The Fab Hub swapped the bad one on the main heat system for a functional one on a system that only heats one room (makes NO sense at all) and got us fixed up until the replacement arrives. I am particularly grateful for that little switcheroo because it is WAY cold where we live right now.
A few productive hours this weekend. I’m not going to pretend I spent the entire weekend cleaning my house. It is very cluttered right now and very much in need of a major cleaning spree. We opted for a few jobs here and there and got a really respectable amount of work done. It’s not the entire job and it’s not perfect, but it’s progress and it’s enough for the moment. If we keep doing a little every day, we’ll have things back in shape in no time.
An afternoon nap. Since I’m not feeling 100% today, I opted to intentionally take an afternoon nap. The Fab Hub and Kidzilla took care of themselves while I and Cat Three took a snooze. It was wonderful. It may help me keep whatever germ this is at bay.
The Fab Hub. Too general, I know. Specifically, I’m thankful for him asking if I wanted him to come with me to a medical appointment this week. I can go alone and I honestly don’t know if I had consciously thought about wanting him to go along, but when he asked if I’d like him to, I knew the answer was yes. Definitely. So I’m glad he knows me well enough to sense what I need even if I don’t say so. Or know it myself.
Kidzilla’s sense of humor. Once again, she cracked us up this week. All three of us were in the car heading somewhere and the Fab Hub and I were talking about renewing our wedding vows next month. In the back seat, Zilla suddenly broke into song at the top of her lungs… “A-E-I-O-U, A-E-I-O-U, A-E-I-O-U, Kindergarten knows vo-wels.”
Thanksgiving break. We aren’t actually big Thanksgiving fans here, but our little family of three is quite looking forward to a break from school and alarm clocks and all the rest of it for a few days. It’s been a long haul since summer and much has happened in the last three months. We’re looking forward to a little down time.
I’m pretty sure this makes eleven, but it’s a party, right? I’m thankful that I got my list finished (finally) because who would want to miss the 25th bash? Not this girl.
And to make it an even dozen, I have to say that I am really thankful to have found the Ten Things of Thankful gang. This weekly reflection on the good things in my life has been such a powerful little exercise in positive thinking. And it’s fun besides. But perhaps the biggest bonus is the terrific community of people I’ve come to know in the weeks I’ve been participating and look forward to knowing better in the weeks to come.
That’s it for me – time to put my tired self in bed.
Hope your week and weekend have been wonderful. Have a great new week and a lovely holiday ahead!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
awww…so sorry you aren’t feeling well. But, I am SO PROUD (and impressed) that you got your list done anyhow! Woot-woot!
Ack! We LOVE Thanksgiving! … well, Ok, we really just love the FEAST of delicious FOOD! Yeah, that’s pretty much it. the food. 🙂
Get to feeling better soon!
Thanksgiving is our one difficult holiday. Fab Hub’s family is Jewish; mine is Catholic. Holidays are generally way easy for us because they rarely coincide (obviously). But Thanksgiving…ugh. It’s the one where we have to either do double-duty or choose one side or the other and invariably, it seems someone ends up unhappy.
Thanks for the well wishes. I’m on my way up to bed now. 🙂
I really hope that nap, tea, and early to bed combine to bring you perfect health in the morning.
I’m with you on overdone weddings. Way too big, spending way too much money on that one day. Of course, with only one daughter, I’m pretty sure my husband will want to do the overdone, big wedding.
Are you really renewing your vow(els, Haha!) next month?
We had some productive hours this weekend, too. The house isn’t perfect by any means, but getting so much done certainly improves my mood.
When Lizzi got this hop started all those weeks ago, I never could have predicted the wonderfulness that would come with it. I’m glad you discovered it and are so loyal. Even getting lists in when you aren’t feeling well. It’s been great fun getting to know you and your family through your blog.
Sleep well!
I’m going with the theory that home remedies and sleep are the key to happiness. Here’s hoping.
I think everybody has different taste for weddings, but it makes me sad to see so many women today focused so much on the day and not enough on the marriage. So much stress, expectation…ugh. And yes, we really are renewing our vowels. 🙂
It really is a wonderful thing this Thankful hop. In a million years, I could not predict getting to know such wonderful people. I love reading about your family and your chickens! I have to say the chicken stories are one of my favorite fringe benefits of the TToT thing!
Off to bed!
Sounds like you had quite the busy week! Sorry you’re feeling under the weather. Hope the magic sick tea and super juice will do the trick.
The Fab Hub sounds pretty Fab alright. 🙂
Yes, it’s been quite a week! And still a few crazy days to go until the Thanksgiving break begins. Tea, juice, and sleep are keeping this germ at bay – trying to keep up a winning battle here.
And yeah…the Fab Hub is pretty darn Fab. Tonight he gave me his coat and walked in the cold in his short sleeve t-shirt because I (duh) forgot to grab my winter coat. Chivalry is not dead!
YES! to the gorgeous Thankful community, and for you being part of it 🙂 I do so enjoy the company of the people who rock up week on week to join in, to share the Good Things, and hang out together. It’s lovely and enriching and wonderful 🙂 Definitely makes the weekend a shinier place to be.
Glad the wedding went well, and that your heating issues are fixed. Long may they stay that way.
Rest well and heal quickly. I hope you get the chance for some really good R&R this week, and kick those germs before they get beyond critical point. And well done you for cleaning in spite of feeling bad. Getting ANYTHING done is a great achievement when you feel there’s a lot to be done 🙂
(and look – you weren’t last 🙂 )
That is a whole lot of love and appreciation you’re putting out there, Lizzi. Good for you. 🙂 Seriously, I really just love the TToT gang.
I am continuing to wage war on my resident germ…trying to keep in on this side of really nasty. Thanks for the good wishes.
I wasn’t last? No way. I was sure I was the caboose this time!
Ha! When I’ve got my Lauren Bacall voice going on, I like to sing. She had (wait, has, right?) an amazing singing voice. Think ‘To Have and Have Not.”
Here’s hoping you get some good rest. I am feeling crazy with everything that has to get done before we leave town on Wednesday, but I am going to try to squeeze my Liebster post in before Tgiving. If not, well, December.
Really looking forward to your Liebster, Sarah!
To Have and Have Not – now there’s a good old fashioned movie, huh? Although I really love Key Largo. Love those flicks. I remember reading somewhere that Bacall actually had a very high and nasal natural voice and did voice training to change it. Can’t remember where I heard that, though. Interesting that she became so well known for that voice, especially if it is an altered version of her own.
Hope you get all your stuff finished and have a wonderful holiday! I’m heading off to bed early again…still waging war on the germ here. Trying to say on the winning side.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Hope you are on the upswing soon!
I think you put together a lovely list. Your sick tea sound interesting. I will take a look at the recipe.
Working thermostats in winter are SO important! I can see why you are thankful for that!
Have a wonderful week!
The sick tea is a great home remedy. I have used it forever. Some people don’t care for the garlic but that can be adjusted with honey (or a shot of whiskey) to taste. My daughter and I have no problem with the taste. So far it is keeping this germ at bay.
Happy blogoversary to you!
Boo for not feeling well and yeah for sick tea.
Have a good holiday!
Exactly. And you, too. Do they have that in Belgium?
feel better soon. tea sounds good right now.
I may have conquered the germ with my trusty tea recipe – definitely feel like I’m emerging from the cloud!
Let me second that thermostat one! We live in Florida, the land of summer and UBER summer. Without a thermostat (and the accompanying central AC) I’d be a slick mess on the floor. Thank you for modern technology!
Hi, Crystal and welcome! I could never live in Florida…I’d have to stay inside all the time. NOT a fan of summer weather. I would likely be a puddle on the floor next to you down there.
Hope you were able to sip your tea and doze so that bug didn’t get a chance to become full blown.
I am glad the wedding went well! I think it is the intensity of weddings that makes me shy away. People want everything perfect, but lets face it, nothing is perfect. And emotions run high. Oh, too much tension for me. So, I am especially glad this one was enjoyable.
I may have dodged the respiratory bug, but I ended up down several days with a horrible stomach virus – wonderful way to spend the weekend!
You know, maybe that’s why I’m not a huge fan of weddings – such high expectations, emotions, etc. – just like you said. I am glad this turned out the way they hoped.
Hope you are feeling better. I love hot tea when I think I am coming down with a “bug”. Love Thanksgiving, but love December holidays even more!
Sadly, just when I thought I was better, I got slammed with a horrible stomach bug. Still not back on my feet yet. Thanks for coming by…come back in a couple of days when I am human again! 🙂
I make a yummy tea and add Jack Daniels, cayenne pepper, and honey to it. YUM. Sorry you ended up getting an even worse bug 🙁
Yay for hubs knowing what you need and yay for kidzilla and an awesome wedding flower-girl performance!
Yeah, I’ve tried that version, too, Kristi – or something very close. The cayenne pepper is key. OK, maybe so is the Jack. 🙂
I really love your thankful lists. 🙂
You know, I really like them, too. I connected with the Ten Things of Thankful gang through another blog I read and one week I just decided to jump in. It’s been a very positive thing – a real exercise in seeing the good in life. Some weeks are more of a challenge than others for sure, but that’s sort of the point. It also serves as a nice wrap-up for the week, besides.
