TToT – The Week of Summer Insanity
This has been a crazy week.
And this TToT is going to be the fastest, shortest, latest, and most dependent upon the graces of the SGV that I’ve ever posted.
Zilla had a full week of activities, which means that I did as well. Here’s what life looked like… (hold onto your hats because it’s a pretty wild ride)
8:40 AM – depart for Vacation Bible School
9:00 AM – arrive at VBS, return home to pack for the rest of the day
9:20 AM – Mom arrives back home to pack lunch and late afternoon snack for Zilla and self, laptop and all extraneous paraphernalia to use for afternoon, and bag of gear for Zilla’s evening activity, if applicable.
12:00 noon – Pickup Zilla from VBS, take packed lunch to my Mom’s house near VBS to take a quick break before heading to afternoon camp.
12:40 PM – Leave for afternoon Lego camp.
1:00 PM – Arrive at afternoon Lego camp, sign in Zilla, head to campus library to amuse self/work/whatever until end of camp.
4:00 PM – Pack up laptop, etc., retrieve Zilla, head to evening activity.
Monday evening we read to the therapy dogs at the public library. Tuesday evening Zilla had Karate at 5PM, Wednesday we were supposed to be on duty at the animal shelter, but had to call off because I was not feeling well at all (inconvenient stomach bug mid-week was NOT helpful). Thursday Zilla had dance at 5PM. Friday we had to hit the CSA farm but Zilla and I were pooped so the Hub went on his own and let us chill at home. Literally.
I am thankful that we were organized, prepared, and managed to get through the week without much ado, save for one or two meltdowns, mostly related to my intolerance for heat and humidity.
I am thankful that Zilla was pleasant, cooperative, and very grown-up about the busy week. She was really a trooper. Granted, it was her own doing, since she wanted to be in all of these things, but it really was a long week filled with long, busy days.
I am thankful that the Hub picked up errands, shopping, and cleaning duties here and there to fill in the gaps for us.
I am thankful that Zilla had a good week, made new friends, learned new things, and overall had a great time.
I am thankful that the meltdowns (mine) were quickly resolved and that I have a very patient Husband and very helpful friends who understand that sometimes mommies sometimes hit tilt and could understand the need to just vent a bit and get it over with. Thank you, ladies.
I am thankful for a wonderful Saturday evening with dear old friends. We were able to reconnect recently and quite accidentally, thanks to a butt dial on the Hub’s phone. It was a wonderful evening and prompted a power cleaning of the house, so that’s a bonus. I made a perfect and gorgeous pasta puttanesca...but did not photograph. Of course. So the link here will take you to a post about that recipe, but let me say that the final product last night was even more beautiful. It was. You’ll have to believe me. I think it was the fresh parsley sprinkled on top that did it.
I am thankful that the week is over. Can’t lie. The next two are also full days for Zilla but should be a bit easier because she’s in one location for morning and afternoon, the Hub has pickup duty, and the day ends a full hour earlier so we get a break before evening activities.
Here’s hoping it goes as smoothly.
And with that, friends, I must call it a TToT and be off…you can pick up here and share what you are thankful for this week. You know the drill…share ’em in the comments or link ’em on the linky!

Your hosts
Now THAT sounds like a whirlwind week. Here’s hoping you get a bit more breathing room for the upcoming one!
It was pretty busy! I think we’ll do OK this time around – a bit easier logistically this week.
Lego camp sounds like lots of fun.
🙂
Doesn’t it? They learned about simple machines and built them with Legos. We got to go in on the last day and see what they did/help with a project. It was great and I was thoroughly impressed with the entire operation. I’m pretty sure we’ll be going back next summer.
WEEHAAAA! WHEW! WHOAH! SLOW IT DOWN…..deep breaths….in…out…..shhhhhhh…think cool refreshing thoughts…..wow y’all did a great job keeping it together this week!
We did OK, all things considered. And in the house that ADD built here? That was no easy thing! We did a whole lot of nothing today.
Holy moly, what a week! It’s so hard when your kiddo wants to be involved in many activities without fully understanding logistics. Glad she had a good time and that VBS and Lego camp were only a week long (right?). Mommies are entitled to melt downs when things get too hectic. Glad Fab Hub is the kind of guy who can step up to the plate when necessary, probably without even being asked.
Here’s to a less stressful week for you!
Truth is, I could have looked at those logistics and said “no way, kid.” But it worked out fine and Zilla was really terrific all the way through. Tired, but that’s really the worst.
Easier week this week for sure because no half-day transport to a second location and an earlier end time so we get a break before evenings. And the Hub has pickup duty in the afternoon so that’s a plus, too.
You’re taking me back. I feel my shoulders tense as I read!
So glad the meltdowns (yours) were brief and fleeting! Too funny.
I’m still finding my sea legs in this new world of “holy cow my kid has a bunch of stuff to do”!
Oh, I’m tired just reading about your week! Glad you survived! 🙂
We did! And we did some really good sleeping this weekend!
Phew, what a blur of activity. It’ll almost be peaceful when school starts up again. But the days of summer are precious, and obviously not lazy days, as the saying goes. Pasta putanesca is one of those dishes I like to eat when we go out for Italian because it’s simple and flavorful.
Well, August will be a lot more peaceful because we don’t have the daytime summer activities then. Maybe one thing, but it wouldn’t even be a full morning.
I love the puttanesca and this one turns out perfect every time. So good! I have to remember to omit the crushed red pepper for Zilla, though – even as little as I used, it was a bit much for her.
Summer does seem to get crazy busy sometimes. I love the idea of lazy days, yet at the same time I always said to the kids that summer is a perfect time to try new things. Try to enjoy the craziness 🙂
I think a perfect mix of both is the way to go…
on your reported week, two words*: ‘yow!’
* no, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that particular joke! lol
The “two words” thing is one of my go-to favorites. And funniest when it’s not two words, of course.
Tucker did a Lego camp a few weeks ago and LOVED it. Right now, he’s mostly in Tae Kwon Do camps because they last until 6pm as opposed to noon or 3pm. Summer is crazy! I hope you have some downtime to enjoy! xo
So Tucker is into Lego and Tae Kwon Do and Zilla is doing Lego and Karate – I have a feeling they’d get along great!
Yeah, summer is a bit crazy…how is that possible? xo back!
