Hi, Mom – A New Rotten Cat Game

May 1, 2013 Off By Lisa

A post about something that makes me laugh, you say? Easy.

It’s time for a Rotten Cats Roundup!

Anyone who hangs around this blog knows that my Three Rotten Cats drive me insane. They do lots of things that get them into trouble like puking on the carpet, eating the leaves off my already pathetic plants, and banging their water dishes together to demand service.

But they are also a never-ending source of entertainment for all of us. Their new favorite game is something we’ve dubbed Hi, Mom. To play Hi, Mom the Rotten Cats find a place to be that will inevitably startle the daylights out of me, the Mom. Take a look at some of the places they’ve popped up lately…

OK, cats on stairs are not funny. But all three Rotten Cats blocking the stairs any time I want to use them? Mildly amusing. The best part of this little game was what happened next…

I thought the two at the top of the stairs on the landing were pretty cute hanging out together, so I grabbed a photo.

Aren’t they sweet? Cute brothers hanging out before bedtime. I think these two are Cat Three and Cat One. It seems that Cat Two didn’t like being left out of the photo…

So he decided to get in on the action. “Hi, Mom. Take my picture, too!” That would have worked so much better if he had been looking at the camera instead of showing me his tuchus. (I spared you that view.  You’re welcome.)

Here we have another view of cat tuchus. I walked in the bedroom one afternoon and found two Rotten Cats intently watching something outside. They acknowledged me with a brief look and a “Hi, Mom” and then returned to their staring. Not sure who these two are – honestly, I have no idea. They all the look the damn same. It’s the black one and the black one. The one on the right might be Cat One, though…his exceptionally large rear end is usually a good hint.

“Hi, Mom. Just keeping your seat warm for you.” Here we have Cat Three sitting in my chair at the kitchen table. Invariably, this Rotten Cat steals my seat if I get up from the table for even ten seconds. I am not exaggerating here…Fab Hub and Zilla think it’s hysterical that he swipes my spot so quickly. I disagree.

“Hi, Mom. What are you doing on the floor?” This has to be Cat One. Not because of his tell-tale tuchus, but because he is the only Rotten Cat who hangs out on this corner of our bed. All. The. Time. On this particular evening, I was sitting on the floor to organize some lower dresser drawers. I looked up and there was the Rotten Cat, inches from my face. It’s disturbing, really, to suddenly find one that close to your head.

“Oh, Hi, Mom. I love the new planetarium!” This one’s a little dark, but how cute is that little cat head? (He kinda looks like a chocolate Easter bunny.) One night as I finished tucking Zilla into bed and turning on her night light, I turned around to find Cat Three sitting just inside the doorway, staring up at the ceiling. Zilla’s night light produces a ceiling full of pastel-colored stars and moons and Cat Three was positively transfixed. We’ve used that night light for months…somehow Cat Three just figured out what it does.

Cat Three also made a grand surprise “Hi, Mom” in my closet last week. I had the door to the walk-in open while I put away laundry. (Yes, Mom, you read that correctly.) While I was folding and stacking things on the bed, I heard rustling in the closet. I was unconcerned – Cat One goes in there and roots around in the back all the time. When I walked into the closet to put a pile of shirts into one of the little cubby shelves, I found myself looking into the eyes of a Rotten Cat! I nearly passed out – it isn’t often that you encounter a Rotten Cat face-to-face at standing height! Turns out the rustling sound was Cat Three climbing up the front of the shelves and getting comfortable on a pile of shirts. It was a fantastic round of “Hi, Mom” but alas, one without photo evidence.

“Hi, Mom. Can we go to bed now?” This is Cat Three once again. He’s not helping me write so much as he’s nagging me. Cat Three likes to go to bed at the same time every night. And he insists that I go with him. If I am not in bed by 11:15, he meowls at me until I comply. If I ignore his nagging too long, he hops up on my desk and prances around in front of the screen, on the keyboard, or plants himself on the half-wall behind my desk and hollers at me.

And yes, in case you were wondering, I do kind of keep a camera handy so I can readily snap a photo of whatever Rotten Cat happens to do something photo-worthy. After missing two or three awesome Rotten Cat moments recently – like the game of American Gladiators Joust on the half wall in the two-story foyer. It went pretty much like this, only with paws instead of pugil sticks…

That’s all for this time. Stop in again for more Rotten Cat fun. Or catch up on their annoying little games by clicking on Rotten Cats in the tag cloud.
