Why My Wife is Awesome – A Guest Post by Fab Hub
Earlier this month, I wrote a post inspired by a Mama Kat’s prompt about “My Crush” – the Fab Hub. This week, when one of Kat’s prompts was to write fifteen reasons why I am awesome, I suggested to the Fab Hub that he should write that post for me.
He did.
Please welcome the Fab Hub to the blog today!

Before I begin, there are two disclaimers that I must make:
First, I am not a writer.
Second, I am (of course) biased in my views on the matters discussed in this list.
1. My wife is the awesomest wife in the world. The specifics are too varied and numerous to list, but they contribute specifically to her wifely being. These include but are in no way limited to: putting up with my quirks, idiosyncrasies, dry and wry sense of humor, etc.
2. My wife is inexplicably understanding of my choice to continue being a musician. Until very recently, that meant dealing with the fact that my entire days were overrun with the duties of being a scholastic band director, which means many after school, evening, and weekend commitments all year long. All of that was time not spent with my family. Yet, my wife remained unflinchingly understanding about all of it, and simply appreciated the time that we all did get to spend together. Now, due to the unfortunate effects of a school with tightened purse strings, my wife remains understanding of the unfortunately slow and uphill battle that I face in finding the next school which will demand my time and attention. And she will be unflinchingly understanding about that. In the meantime, she is being that same kind of understanding as I take the opportunity to record and release CDs numbers 4 and 5.
3. My wife is the awesomest mother in the world. We have a Zilla. She stomps, she breathes fire, and often devours all in her path. Zilla also is incredibly affectionate, empathetic, bright, and has amazing comedic delivery and timing. As entertaining as Zilla is on her own, my favorite thing to do is watch my wife with Zilla. Her instincts about what to do, when to do it, and to what extent are simply right on the money. This is a mother who is not afraid to impose appropriate restrictions and to uphold them, and this is a mother who is capable of making Zilla feel like the greatest and most important person who ever lived – often in the same moment. I find myself taking notes (mentally at least) all the time.
4. My wife is an awesome writer. She will tell you otherwise. She simply has a gift for language and manipulating it to achieve the desired effect and then some. To be as gifted as she is with that magnitude of expressive potential is enviable indeed.
5. My wife has a wider taste in movies than she will admit. I know this. She knows I know it. She refuses to acknowledge it. For instance, not too long ago, I convinced my wife to watch the Star Trek reboot (the JJ Abrams film from 2009). She went into this viewing very reluctantly due to distinct lack of interest in all things sci-fi. But after the film ended she actually said, “That wasn’t that bad.” Perhaps sometime in the future, she may admit to having actually enjoyed a sci-fi film.
6. My wife doesn’t play any Kenny G when I am around.
7. My wife reads like Speedy Gonzales runs. She’ll burn through a book in a day or two given the opportunity. That amazes me.
8. My wife thinks Batman is cool. Additionally, she thinks the Batman-singing pug is funny.
9. My wife laughs like a loon at Damn You Autocorrect and all other sorts of improper, off-color, and gut-bustingly funny sources of humor.
10. My wife loves our cats. She comes from a family of anti-cat people. I grew up with both dogs and cats, and like them equally. Cats are simply better for our lifestyle. Our Rotten Cats very quickly helped her get over her inherited feline distaste. She often professes to hate them, and she does so in the most adoring and smitten manner possible whilst affectionately cuddling and petting at least one of them.
11. My wife has jumped into a multi-faith marriage wholeheartedly. We have the kind of relationship where all parts are equal in importance. While we observe our own holidays personally, we celebrate them together. We agree on the important issues, like how to raise Zilla where faith is concerned, and on the more trivial ones as well. It is a rare thing indeed to see a person so strong in her faith who also has a strong appreciation for mine, and it is wonderful that we can share with each other in the ways that we do.
12. My wife is an awesome teacher. She’s one of the best that I’ve seen: firm, fair, focused, knows her expectations and sticks to them.
13. My wife is a lethal weapon. She holds a black belt in karate, which impresses me to no end. I studied martial arts in my youth but never progressed beyond an intermediate level. She could kick my butt if she wanted to. It’s awesome that she doesn’t.
14. My wife is brilliant. She’s an intellectual. She prefers real print to pixels. She works to solve problems and obtains solutions that she doesn’t know. She relentlessly pursues knowledge (including math-based knowledge) until she is satisfied.
15. My wife is awesome because she puts up with me. I am quite the handful, and at times I get a gentle reminder to that effect. But more often, this handful is taken for all his guyness (as in butter open IN FRONT of the butter dish, or the “Where does this go?” game), for all his quirkiness (as in bad sense of humor, odd little behaviors, etc.). My wife finds a multitude of things she thinks are awesome about me, which is the awesomest thing of all.

Aww! That was very cute and sweet!
What a fantastic hubby you have!
He’s pretty great. 🙂
Thanks for visiting, Leslie!
She sounds like a wonderful woman! and I don’t doubt that she is. lucky is a wife whose husband can see so many awesome things about her. also, reading this made me think how cute the two of you must be. u totally sound like you’re still very much in love. 😀
I think we are! 🙂
Thanks for visiting, Janice!
Yes she is a totally wonderful woman. 🙂
Is my daughter lucky or what?
Completely. Especially considering what a pain in the tuchus I am!
Hmmm… I’m the lucky one. 🙂
What a wonderful guest post! You both seem to complement the other well. It’s great seeing another side of you. Did you recognize yourself in the description?
Hmm…interesting question, Tammy. Yes, I do recognize myself in there. Always funny, though, to see yourself through someone else’s eyes. I definitely think my Husband is far less critical of me than I would be of myself. But we are all our own worst critic. 🙂
What a wonderful testimony to your relationship and the life you’ve created together. It seems like you have a mutual respect and love for each other which is wonderful for you both, and especially for your Zilla.
AND Fab Hub is also a pretty good writer.
I’d love for my husband to do a similar post to see what he finds awesome about me, if only to pull it out when I’m in a funk, but I’m afraid that all he’d come up with is “My wife is awesome because she’s good in the sack.”
🙂
Oh my. I’m pretty sure he’d have lots of wonderful things to say – you are a terrific person! Always that fear though with boys, right? 😉
Awww…what a nice and touching post.
I thought so, too.
Your hub sells himself short. He’s an excellent writer. And he obviously adores you.
You know, he really is a great writer. Way too humble. 🙂
So sweet! You sound like an awesome couple 🙂
Thanks, Stacey! And thanks for visiting. 🙂
That is so sweet. I’m glad you appreciate her awesomeness. M
Me, too! 🙂
Yes, her awesomeness is certainly appreciated. 🙂
This has to be the sweetest thing I’ve read all week.
Also n°9… yeah, me too…
I knew I liked you! 🙂 Funny is just funny…can’t help what cracks us up.
This is really touching. Not too many spouses would write a post like this. It sounds like you two have a great relationship together.
I agree with you that she’s an awesome writer. If she doesn’t know that, she should.
I’d love for my wife to do a post like this one day. Or maybe I’ll do one for her. It’s such a nice sweet thing to do for another person.
He says nice things about me so I’ll keep feeding him. 🙂
You’d feed me anyway. 😀 (though I do *not* take that for granted!)
Oh, she does know that. She just doesn’t admit it. 🙂
Love that! Especially like the part about your daughter- she sounds like my 3-1/2 year old granddaughter.
The part about demolishing everything in her path? She’s a handful! But so much fun, too. 🙂
