#10Thankful – Things of Significance
I sense that great things are about to happen.
No, really. I wish I could explain why, but I can’t. I just know that things are somehow falling into place as they should.
I’m late again this week – very late – but that’s OK because once again we have been out living. I can’t think of a better way to fuel my writing than by living. How about you? I’d love to give you a fabulously written intro here, but it’s quite late and the link-up is going to close soon, so I’m opting for expediency.
I’d also love to tell you I grabbed a fabulous photo somewhere this week, but I didn’t, so maybe you’ll allow me to share this one – pulled it from some pics from our visits to our CSA farm last summer and added it as a new header. After the rainy and chilly weather here over the last couple of weeks, I’m so looking forward to more days like this!
So let’s get down to thankful…
Early this week, I saw my rheumatologist for a routine checkup and everything looks great. I feel good, we talked about decreasing one of my meds over the next few months, and she noticed my recent weight loss.
I saw my new allergist for the first time this week and it seems perhaps my allergies aren’t quite as bad as I have believed for the last few years. Difficult to explain. But the end result is that I’m off ALL of the allergy meds I’ve been taking for several years and I don’t feel awful. A bit of congestion and such, but not a big deal. Getting off the allergy meds has been a goal of mine, so I’m delighted.
I’m glad that I jumped into the Graviteering effort with Clark and the rest of the gang. My weight loss has been slow for sure, but so far I’ve managed to hit two new “stable weights” along the way and am hopeful that I’ll continue. Plus, we have t-shirts, so that’s cool.
This week, we had a visitor on our back porch for a couple of days. Check out this luna moth. Kind of ugly, kind of beautiful all at the same time. Definitely very large – his wingspan was easily between four and five inches. I’ve never seen one before, but I’ve learned a bit about them. Seems it’s rare to see one and they are said to be harbingers of positive change or good fortune. This one hung around on our porch door for two days, then disappeared. Now, anything with more legs than a dog is definitely not welcome in my general vicinity, but in the end I think I’m kind of glad this guy showed up.
But wait, there’s more! This afternoon the Hub and Zilla and I went to see The Jungle Book (awesome) and then grabbed dinner. When we came out, we were fortunate to see the most beautiful rainbow. It was a “full” rainbow – you know, the ones where you can see the entire arc from end to end. Not only was it a full rainbow, but also – at least for a minute or two – a double rainbow. And it is without question the biggest and most vibrant rainbow I have ever seen (even better than this one a couple of years ago). We drove around a bit literally chasing rainbows; the Hub took video and grabbed a bunch of photos which, of course, will never do it justice. This was beautiful to see and I love that the three of us got to see it together. We got to talking about how this week we had the luna moth visit and now the amazing rainbow. I asked Zilla what the rainbow means and she instantly replied, “God’s promise not to destroy the world again.” (Is this kid not amazing?) I said, yes, of course, but what else? Lucky, of course! Meanwhile, I kind of like the whole world not getting destroyed part a lot, you know? There’s so much negativity out there and I love the positive and hopeful sign in the rainbow.
Anyway, I can’t help but see these events as significant somehow. Are great things in store for us? Are we just on the right path at the moment? Are my Grandparents hanging around looking out for us? No idea. But I am a firm believer that when God has a message for you, He makes it clear.
I am thankful for heat that right now is warming up this very chilly house. Dropping into the 30s tonight with a frost warning – in mid-May??? I tried to resist, but it’s just too cold for my joints in here. I am also very happy to enjoy a hot cup of tea and a snuggly shawl (yes, a shawl) around my shoulders to cut the chill in my office while I write this.
Oh, and speaking of that, I am coming to you tonight from my brand new computer, built specifically for me by the Fab Hub. He is awesome. I’ve had my laptop for several years and it’s been threatening to die lately, so he decided that it was high time to replace. In the end I think (if I understood his explanations correctly) we both ended up with significant upgrades on our two machines for far less than the cost of same retail. How handy is it to have an in-house computer guy? I admit I resisted the upgrade for several reasons but I’m glad he did it.
Zilla is having a bit of a tough time getting through the last half of the fourth quarter of the school year – she’s just so ready for second grade to be over, I think. But she’s hanging in there and working hard. The Hub and I each got to spend some special time alone with her this weekend and we’ve spent a bunch of time just doing things as a family. The Hub and I have been able to connect and spent time as just the two of us this week, something that too often gets pushed down on the priority list behind all the other things that couples have to think about. We’ve had some good talks, too, which only help strengthen our relationship.
Life is good.

Your turn: What are you thankful for this week? I’m far too late to the party for you to link ’em through me, but you can certainly tell us in the comments!
Your hosts
Lovely post. That rainbow is gorgeous! Even in the pictures it comes through as vibrant and striking. I can only imagine how much more beautiful it was in person 🙂
I do hope your feeling of positivity stays and that the good things in store reveal themselves in due course 🙂
Stay blessed!
Diya, the rainbow was like nothing I’ve ever seen. gorgeous! I am definitely interested to see what good things are ahead!
A good week, for sure, and I’m happy to hear you are off some of your medication. I used to take a ton of allergy medications until I started putting Vicks on the bottom of my feet. It practically cured me, especially the post nasal drip that kept me up nights. Hope spring warms up for you and life continues to be good.
I remember you telling me about the Vicks – might have to try that because the nighttime post nasal drip is a very real torture. 🙁 Thanks for the reminder!
Sounds like a wonderful week filled with signs and inspiration. Hoping next week is even better.
That would be amazing, Shari! Hope you have a good week, too!
This is one extremely happy post! So many good signs! SO good about the medication! Do you think the weight loss is related?
Definitely happy!
No, I don’t think the weight loss is related to the meds because it was gone before I made the medication changes. But hey, if that happens now that I’m off them, I’ll take that, too! 😀 I think I’ve just been eating better and exercising more and differently. And we’ve eliminated a lot of stress around here in the last couple of weeks, so I think that helps, too.
Those Luna Moths are enormous! I’ve only ever seen one but I remember it having pale pink spots on it’s wings – I think yours is hiding his/hers behind that bar on the screen.
Must be, Vanessa. Either that or they’re on the back of the wings? We wanted to look from the other side, but also didn’t want to open the door and risk having it fly away (or fly IN)!
I love all your photos (and the new header!). The end of the school year is hard. My youngest is just done. I think it might be even harder for the kids who like routine since (here anyway) everything is different and they really don’t do much (field trips…no complaints ;), assemblies, and busy work) for the rest of the year. We are on our last week though and I’m extremely thankful! How long does your daughter have left in her school year? Can’t wait to start reading about all the great things that are on their way to you!
End of school year is hard for everyone and I agree that it is difficult to keep everybody in line when all that end of year stuff is going on. You’re in your last week already? Wow. We aren’t out until mid-June. 🙁
We’ll be paying the price though when we go back mid-August (I think it is August 11 this year) while everyone else still has summer going strong! I really can’t remember the last time the kids got out this early but we had no snow days this year except a blue one (for the Royals parade) and I think they must have forgiven that one. Very unusual around here.
Well, yeah, that is the trade off.
What is a blue snow??? I’ve never heard that before!
Oops, I wasn’t clear. Blue snow isn’t an actual thing. It’s just a local term coined for when a bunch of schools used a snow day (on a really nice day) so the kids could go to the Kansas City Royals World Series parade. They figured the attendance would be super low (it would have) and so quite a few schools went ahead and canceled classes for that day. Everyone was calling it a “blue snow day” (The Royals colors are blue…)
Ah, that makes much more sense. 😀
Thanks Lisa for the positive message and the positive vibes that flew from you to me, all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. (I think. I’m presuming you’re in the USA. I’m in S.Africa.) To quote a famous guy, “I love it when a plan comes together” so I hope your positive feeling moves in to action and you have a great week!
Shirley, I love that you got all the positive vibes! Yes, I’m in the US, so those must be some pretty good vibes. 😀
You are so right—-life is good and we are very blessed! Great picture of the rainbow —and that moth—ugh!

Yeah, Jodie, the moth was pretty ugh. But at the same time, it’s very cool (especially since it was OUTside). 😀
Hold on to that optimism and sense that good things are on their way…I think it can be a self-fulfilling prophecy!
I do believe that, Roxanne. Absolutely!
Its never too late to be thankful! Glad to hear about your med reduction…that can be tricky. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly. Also love the moth. I’m glad you came around to its beauty.
Yeah I’m pretty surprised that I found the moth interesting at all. I like to think maybe it means I’m growing more open-minded. Or something. 😀
Congratulations on all the things that you’ve go to be thankful for and congrats on the great medical checkups. I love that “feeling” when you sense good things on the horizon. It’s like a shot of pure oxygen. Enjoy the new computer, I’ve got one for mother’s day and am loving it!!
Is IS kind of like a shot of oxygen – good description, Rosemond!
I resisted the new computer but after working on it for a full day today, I’m quite happy.
Those are wonderful things to be thankful for. Seeing the beauty in every is a blessing.
I think people in general find it far too easy to see the negative, Lori. I’ve definitely been one of those people, but I’m really glad to be seeing beauty and good and positivity more readily than I used to.
Maaan I LURVE that luna moth. So excited you got to see it, and I know you’re not keen, but I rather like the idea of it being a messenger of Good Things To Follow. How exciting! Perhaps even the messenger being there will somehow be the effect in itself, because now you’re looking for positive things (and, as they say, putting positive energy ‘out there’) and maybe that will be the difference. Funny how these things work (brain gone off on a whole tangent there…)
YAY for your allergy meds not needing to be reinstated, and HOORAY for your weight loss. Seriously well done you 🙂 I’m struggling with gravity at the moment – I’m just not happy for how I want to be, so I need to figure out some changes and some patience.
I’m typing this to you, not from a new snazzy laptop, but from wrapped in a blanket with a hot water bottle 🙂 xo
You know, I suspected you would love that. I’m just sorry I didn’t grab a shot from the other side, but we really didn’t want to disturb it. I figure if it’s a good omen, let it stay! And the tangent is a good one – it makes sense. It’s a question of good begetting good, I think.
Dropping meds, dropping pounds…definitely on a roll. Finally. My gravity pull was stuck for the looooooongest time. Had to mix things up a bit and, honestly, I’m back to my smoothies so that’s a definite factor.
A blanket and hot water bottle sounds like a great way to spend an evening.
good news, that check up…
gravity challenge really is a cool way to approach the matter of how strongly we’re drawn to the center of the planet…
huge-ass moth, no? (love the ‘more legs than a dog‘ never heard that one!)
Yup, that’s my motto – nothing with more legs than a dog. 😀 That is by far the largest insect I’ve ever seen. Well, either that or the horrible squash bug I encountered a few years ago. Also ick.
Yes, a very good checkup all around AND one of the docs I saw last week noticed the loss, so that’s amazing.
What a lovely post. It seems like you have some great things to celebrate!!! That moth is quite astounding… the size of its wings are phenomenal!!
Thank you, Linda. Yes, the moth was quite fascinating to see.
With a rainbow like that one in my sights, I would have been chasing it too. Congratulations on getting good medical results, it makes the world seem a better place doesn’t it?
It was so cool, India. Yes, good medical reports can definitely put a spring in your step!
I once saw a rainbow that extended onto the dashboard of my car. I was on a highway, or I’d have taken a picture! Instead, I just placed my hand there for a moment and appreciated the chance to be at the end of a rainbow, finally.
I’m thankful for that experience. I’m thankful for your optimism, too. It gives me hope.
That’s really cool, Eli. We were all excited to be right there seeing the end of it so nearby. Eli, I’m thankful for my optimism, too. I can think of times in my life I didn’t always have that mindset and I like this way much better. 🙂
I sense that great things are about to happen.
No, really. I wish I could explain why, but I can’t. I just know that things are somehow falling into place as they should.
I have been saying the same thing. Something is up, but is good and it is going to turn into something amazing.
My theory, Josh, is that there are no accidents. I’m going with it!
Wow, Lisa, this is a wonderfully uplifting post for your week. After all the stressful times, in the time I’ve known you, glad to hear it.
I have never seen a rainbow, unless on TV or in a book as a child, even when I did have more sight. How would you describe them, if you might? I still love them, even if I haven’t been let to see what they look like, because they are untouchable, magical, colour and nature. They were one of my favourite things to draw when I was younger.
I have heard that movie is a good one. It will never beat the Disney cartoon that I’ve loved since childhood, but I hope to see for myself sometime.
Glad your health is under better control, you have a handy computer expert to help you, and that you had so much family time lately.
Looking forward to hearing more of the great things to come.
This season has been mighty rainy and cold, but it has also brought the most beautiful rainbows I have ever seen. I totally understand the rainbow chasing. 🙂
Sounds like a great week for your family.
Rainbow chasing is such a great way to spend time. We’ve had plenty of cold and rain, but I always like to remember that rain serves its purpose – it cleanses, refreshes, and brings new life. Yes!
I am late too, and I did not make it to the link up.
I’m glad you found time to post your TToTs.
You can be early for this week’s link-up! Hope you’ve had a good week!
This was such an uplifting post! These types of blogs are my favorites because it gives a little insight into someone’s life and how differently we look at situations and find blessings in small moments (like your new moth friend!) I’m so happy you’re having a great week and your health is improving as well, that’s so important! Cheers to another positive blessing-filled week ahead!
Thanks, Jasmine – we definitely like uplifting at the TToT! Hope your week has been wonderful.
I’m not sure how I missed this last week, but it is such a happy, positive, uplifting post that I couldn’t leave without saying how nice it was to read. Luna moth and rainbows, such fun signs to remind you that life is good and going to get better… and it does, it always cycles. Praying Zilla through this last short stretch of the school year, she’s done so well this year, and I don’t blame her for being ready for a break! xoxo
Josie, I don’t know how I miss most of the things I miss! 😀 Thanks for finding it and leaving me such (always) a lovely comment. I love my moth and rainbow signs – you are so right that things always do get better, even if we can’t quite see when or how that might happen. I am praying Zilla through the end of the year, too – counting the days! Thanks for your love and prayers. Talk to you soon! xo
