Catching Up
A few days ago, Andrea wrote this post about catching up on an overwhelming number of blog posts…and why it’s important to her. Go read it. Really, go. I’ll wait.
I could pretty much write the same post here – or at least a very similar one.
Tonight, my blog feed told me I have missed 156 posts over the last several days. I’m trying to catch up on them, but it ain’t gonna happen tonight. Oh, make no mistake, I could do it. I’m tempted to do it.
But I have to wait to read my what my blog friends have to say until tomorrow. Or maybe even Wednesday. Tonight I have to do the responsible thing and get in bed – like right this second. I couldn’t sleep last night (two hours, folks…two hours) and I am exhausted. I know this because I just realized ten minutes ago that I completely failed to remember absolutely everything on my to-do list for the evening. And I even wrote things down so that wouldn’t happen.
I could stay up for a couple more hours and work like crazy just so I can say I checked off my list. Again, I’m tempted. But tomorrow will only end the same way if I don’t get some real rest.
So I’m still here…working through the first five day school week for me and for Kidzilla. I’ll also be figuring out how to feed us all for a few days on what’s in the fridge and pantry without having to go to the grocery store mostly because I just don’t want to. And I will be tackling some of the most pressing chores for the week to keep us all afloat. OK, I admit that pretty much means I’ll be figuring out what to put on the Zilla/Daddy Do Lists for the next four afternoons. That’s how we’re rolling here…everybody helps somehow. And the Fab Hub deserves a great big thank you for being happy for the lists and for getting things crossed off of them.
I’ll be working on getting caught up on your posts in between all of that. Right after I sleep.
Sweet Dreams!
This year seems more hectic than normal. I feel behind too. Finding little snippets to catch up on the blog reading is feeling more and more like a luxury! Oh, the glamorous life I lead!
You know, so many people in my circle seem to feel like it’s more hectic than usual. Must be time for a snow day. 🙂
Eeeeee! You mentioned me!! 🙂 Thanks!
The first week/month of school is always hectic – and the hectic comes and goes all year in spurts and stops. So many bloggers want to read our fellow bloggers’ offerings, but in reality there are only so many hours in the day. “I can only do so much” is a mantra I keep having to repeat to myself!
I did!
And you’re so right – there are only so many hours and at some point, something’s gotta give. This year, I’m working on not making it sleep. The older I get, the more I realize I am a disaster if I don’t get enough sleep.
You know what? Using the nuclear option and “marking all as read,” is often the only sane choice. Remember: Guilt is optional.
While we all love your feedback on our posts, it’s okay. Not everything inspires everyone to write a comment. We’d never know that you didn’t read it!
SLEEP!!!!!!
I love this – guilt is optional. I will keep that in mind. 🙂
I’m right there with you sister! It is so easy to get behind, and so much work to catch up.
It happens. I like what Steve said, though – don’t dig into the catching up unless you’re really up for it.
Oh I hate when that happens. Give it a few days and you can get overwhelmed by the number of posts you have in your reader. I think the important thing is to not start reading something if you’re not up for it. Reading should be a pleasurable experience and not something you feel is a chore. I’ve let my reader get behind with a lot of my friends posts still yet to read. It happens. We all know it. It’s gets especially busy during the first week of school.
That’s great advice, Steve – and not just for catching up. Reading should be pleasurable. Maybe that’s why I got behind on reading. I really love reading my blog friends’ posts and I don’t want to sit to the task if I’m rushed or in the wrong frame of mind.
Back to school is always crazy, but with Kidzilla starting Kindergarten, it’s been multiplied exponentially!
