(Not) Wordless Wednesday – CSA Lovelies
This was supposed to be a Wordless Wednesday post.
But I couldn’t help myself. The CSA veggies were so lovely this week.
This is my absolute favorite delivery item today.
Green tomatoes! Kidzilla has been asking for fried green tomatoes, so this is perfect timing. They are cute and small, too, so she is going to love them.
Red potatoes again this week and another look at the tomatoes.
Kale, okra, tomatoes, bell peppers, various hot peppers, rosemary, and radishes – pink radishes! Needless to say, Kidzilla was all over those.
The farm has an overabundance of hot peppers, so members were encouraged to pick up “as many peppers as you want.” I grabbed a few for the Brother In Law because he likes them and also a few for us. I am so making roasted green pepper soup again.
Two kinds of eggplant also made an appearance this week as well as more leeks, some green beans, and more edamame.
I have some really great things planned for these veggies. Check back later!
Yum! I am drooling over your green tomatoes. Oh, darn. That’s my keyboard.
Aren’t they gorgeous? They are pretty small, though, so I’m wondering how the fried green thing will turn out – even Kidzilla said, “Mom, don’t you need BIG tomatoes for that dinner?” Guess we’ll find out.
Confession time: I have never eaten a green tomatoe in my life. And now I am more curious then ever!
Hi, Tinne! Welcome back!
Green tomatoes are pretty cool. I have a great recipe for fried green tomatoes on my Pinterest – probably under either meatless or veggies and sides. Make them with a nice rémoulade for the top and you are all set!
I am so jealous of the variety in your CSA baskets. I tried a CSA for about 6 months and the baskets were always the same from week to week. Nothing fun or unusual.
I’m also envious of those green tomatoes. I didn’t get a chance to make chow chow this year, in which green tomatoes are the star.
We really do have a great variety – we are amazed week after week. We know a couple of other people nearby and their selections are not nearly as diverse or unique. We did have way too many greens in the early summer – we use a lot of greens in salads and smoothies, but our greens were just out of control. And then…there were none. Last week we had one little bunch of chard; this week one bunch of kale. Much more manageable, though, that’s for sure!
Oh, and the green tomatoes are awesome – making fried mini green tomatoes tomorrow night. Zilla is very excited.
The veggies look lovely. I am sure you will dazzle the fam with your amazing culinary abilities.
Thanks, Miriam. I’m working on some good stuff right now! We did fried green tomatoes last night.
Leeks! I love leek soup. Joy of Cooking has a yummy recipe. It is buttery and creamy and probably sucks all that is healthful right out of those leeks!
Buttery and creamy sounds good to me! I’ll check it out.
My very favorite thing in the world to eat are fried green tomato’s. Nothing better! These are crying out to be fried!! All the produce looks lovely…
We tried doing “baked” fried green tomatoes in the oven. Good but not quite the same.
