Ten Things of Thankful – Back in the Saddle Edition
I totally missed the TToT party last weekend. And I mean missed in the sense that on Monday I realized the weekend had come and gone and I was not part of it.
I went down like a ton of bricks the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving with THE worst stomach virus I think I’ve ever had. I was in bed asleep for the majority of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I didn’t eat anything that resembled real food until Wednesday. It was awful.
But I am back in the world of the living again and despite the fact that half of my week happened without my knowledge or consent, I have a list of things for which I am very thankful this week.
First, my Piano Guys Christmas CD from Kerry over at Smiffbib. Signed and everything!
If you haven’t read Kerry’s blog, you really should. She’s hysterical. Her explanation of the title of her blog alone will hook you. Thanks, Kerry, for my giftie! And after you get done checking out Kerry, definitely go check out the Piano Guys on You Tube or on their website.
This week I put on my not as fat jeans. Notice I did not say skinny jeans. They are not skinny jeans. I am not skinny. Ain’t nobody got time for that. But I did put on my not as fat jeans. Twice. And they weren’t uncomfortable. So this is not a fluke, friends. Going public with the fact that I’ve lost about 15 pounds and I believe they are actually gone for good.
This is really one for the Fab Hub – he’ll be thrilled and thankful. I am thankful for the obnoxious temperature during cocktail hour at my Sister’s wedding reception and this week’s RIDICULOUS humidity to seal the deal on letting my hair grow out a bit. I like this cut – a lot – but I really do miss the option of putting my hair up and forgetting it when the need arises. Perhaps a silly thing to add to the list, but I know he’ll be happy about that.
This week I have had a couple more good medical reports and (finally) a potential solution to some recent medical issues of the feminine variety. *crosses fingers* Here’s to moving forward and not being completely incapacitated each month.
A while ago, Bloglovin’ sent me an e-mail congratulating me on having gained ten followers on Bloglovin’. Ten. Wow. Feels like I’m almost a “real” blogger.
I was surprised and happy to find this greeting me when I came home from my first day back at work this week…
I have a pretty hefty Dunkin Donuts pumpkin coffee addiction. If you buy a huge coffee every day, it adds up pretty quickly. Last fall the Fab Hub found this pumpkin spice coffee syrup at Target, of all places. It’s better than any other I’ve ever tried. This fall, he attempted to get me more, but it was nowhere to be found. They must have finally had a truck delivery, because there it was. He grabbed a bunch so I won’t be lacking in pumpkin spice for a while. So that’s a thankful for Target’s pumpkin spice stuff and (once again) for the Fab Hub.
I think I speak accurately for me and the Fab Hub by saying we are thankful for some positive developments in Kidzilla’s ongoing school issues. And part of that includes the advice and help of a very good person in our lives. For that person, our family is very thankful.
I am thankful for bloggy friends who did not forget that my blog existed because I disappeared for a week. And, speaking of bloggy friends, I do hope that all of mine are safe and warm out there as this nasty snow and ice storm has made its way across the country.
I am very thankful that I have a decent sense of humor. Because truly if I didn’t laugh, I’d have to cry. Since Thanksgiving, our house has seen a five-day stomach virus from hell, Cat One with stomach issues and cat puke all over the place, a dead car battery and subsequent replacement, cat poop in the sink, Kidzilla coming home with stomach virus round two, complete with vomit…along with the other standard weekly stuff.
Finally, the Fab Hub makes the list. Again. I know he makes a lot of my thankful lists. But he deserves it. This week, I am particularly thankful for the fact that he is an incredibly hands-on and intuitive Fab Dad who jumps right in and does what needs to be done. Including barf bags. When Zilla’s school called to tell us she was sick, he took care of business. When I came home after school, I was pleased and admittedly surprised to know that he had done exactly all the right things to get her home and settled.
I think that wraps up our week and this list. Zilla is feeling much better today and has kept real food down so we are off to see Frozen this afternoon. I’ll be around to read all of your TToT lists later!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Love the piano guys, pumpkin anything, and thank goodness for a sense of humor and fab spouses.
I’m really loving the Piano Guys’ Christmas CD – very nice. The sense of humor is definitely helpful! 🙂
Gosh, I’m so glad you’re all better! I hate being sick, and it sounds as though you and all of yours have been really going through the mill with it! Well done to Fab Hub for managing Zilla so well.
And YAY for your less-fat trousers. That’s a real achievement, to commit it to purchasing, and really well done you 🙂 I bought the next size down last week, and have proceeded to not wear them, as I still don’t quite believe they fit!
LOVE that you got a bulk-buy of your favourite pumpkin spice syrup. There are times when it’s just worth making that kind of investment 🙂
Thank you, but no purchasing has happened – these are pants I already owned and then abandoned. But they are on my tuchus once again so still good.
Sorry to hear that you and Kidzilla got sick. Now I have to go to Target and see if they have any of that Pumpkin Spice Syrup. I used to hate all things pumpkin, but I’m kind of liking the Pumpkin Spice Lattes that they have at McDonalds…or make that HAD. I went to get one the other day and I guess since Thanksgiving is over they have stopped making those and are now making White Chocolate Lattes and Peppermint Mocha Lattes. I think the cashier could sense my disappointment by the way I just stared at her in disbelief for about 30 seconds.
Hah – funny. Don’t you hate that, though? When you get into something and then they take it away??? The Target stuff is pretty good – give it a shot!
So glad you’re feeling better! I wouldn’t mind a stomach bug if it helped me lose 15 pounds!!
Definitely feeling better, Kate – thank you. The stomach bug can’t be given credit for the loss – that had actually happened before I was ill but it’s staying off so I’m going with it. 🙂
Okay, I’m going to say it: I’d rather have hemorrhoid surgery than have the stomach flu. And yes, I HAVE had hemorrhoid surgery, and there were a few days (like 15 of them) in there that I thought it was going to kill me, and I’d STILL rather have hemorrhoid surgery than have the stomach flu. Glad you’re better and hoping Kid is as well. And happy to hear issues at school are better for her. And that you’ve lost 15 lbs. (yay, you!). And I can also commiserate with you over the barfing cat thing; I’ve got one with stomach issues, too, and it’s often not pretty.
I certainly hope this week is much, much better for you!
My Mom often says she’d prefer childbirth to things like stomach flu or root canal – hemorrhoid surgery is definitely a good descriptive! I agree that a stomach virus is probably the worst because really, there’s nothing you can do but ride it out in misery. Everyone is feeling much better. Even the Rotten Cat. Cat One is definitely of weak constitution in the stomach department – he’s really our only puker but like you said it is definitely not pretty.
Starting the week off with snow and ice – awesome. Probably not enough for a school holiday which means it will be just miserable. But Zilla loves the snow so she’s pretty happy about it either way. She caught flakes on her tongue coming out of church. Cute.
you the cool thing about getting stomach flu? (well, cool in a weird, clarklike sorta way) and thats when the thing has passed it’s course and you are able to eat solid food, you can feel the solid food move through your system. (lol I did qualify this as a but weird!)
and it’s not like being directly aware of every twist and turn in your digestive system, is something that you want to do often, it’s just that, given the condition we are in after a bout such as you describe, it’s gonna happen, might as well be amused by some aspect!
glad to hear you’re doing better and congrats on the weight loss too
You know, Clark, I totally get that. You’re right. I think you just become so aware of what your body is doing that you can’t help but notice that. It is weird, true, but maybe just a little bit of fear working that perhaps your body won’t actually handle the solid food well. A week ago I was convinced I would never eat solid food again.
Ugh. I think I can fit into my less than fat jeans, but I don’t know. This is a hard time to cut back, but I am really trying have some restraint in between parties and before the festivities reallly get going. Except for alcohol. That never counts.
Honestly, I never would have tried them on if it weren’t for the fact that my other jeans were falling off me (even straight out of the dryer) and were also MIA the day I needed a pair of jeans. I was as surprised as anyone. It really is a difficult time of year, but I think your word is a good one – some restraint is better than nothing!
Welcome back to the land of the living and to the blogosphere. We missed you! Hopefully the whole family is done with tummy difficulties.
Congratulations on comfortably moving down to smaller pants. Take credit for all these milestones! 15 pounds down is wonderful!!!!
Thank you very much. 🙂 Yes, I think we are past the stomach nonsense. *knocks on wood*
And thanks on the pants size – I was pretty surprised to realize that it wasn’t a broken scale. LOL
Bummer about the stomach virus. We were all sick in this house a few weeks ago and it was pretty nasty. Not a great way to spend thanksgiving weekend.
Bummer is right – sorry to hear your gang was down, too. I think I’d rather have just about anything than the stomach virus version of sick. Blah.
Yes, the laughing so as not to cry. I live that. 🙂 Lots to be thankful for! I too have a hubs that just handles stuff. SO very helpful.
Glad to know there is a pretty well-sized group of us who live that way. 🙂 And the helpful husbands are really a blessing. I honestly don’t know how single parents do what they do – I am so spoiled.
Good to hear you are on the mend! Stomach flu’s are the devil.
A sense of humor… now there is something to be thankfull for indeed. Some days it is the only things which keeps me sane…
Absolutely! 🙂 It’s true…if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. May as well laugh.
YAY! Im so glad you are liking it!!! and are feeling better!!!
It’s wonderful – a nice break from the “louder” Christmas music. Very relaxing. Thank you again! Yours is almost on its way!
Ugh, stomach viruses are the worst! Hope you are back to 100% by now. And-oh, how I would love to find my not as fat jeans comfortable once again!
Definitely feeling much better, May – thanks! Kidzilla’s back to normal as well.
The not as fat jeans thing was awesome…now the trick is to keep fitting them through the rest of the holidays!
