Ten Things of Thankful – Not Much Exciting Edition
Isn’t that the worst title for a post? It’s like I’m inviting everyone not to read my post because there’s nothing going on. But really, that’s kind of what the week felt like. It took a long time to get this TToT post going. It’s not that I don’t have anything to be thankful for…I guess I just haven’t had enough moments to process the week very well. And as I did my reflecting and processing, I realized there wasn’t much exciting going on this week. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. So here are my ten items of thankfulness from a week of not too much to report. 1. The visit to the car dealership did not end up being a massive high-cost repair. Of course, I didn’t really enjoy paying ninety-five bucks for them to tell us nothing was wrong, but at least it wasn’t worse.
2. Super Aunt was able to take Kidzilla after school for a few minutes on Friday. This was extremely helpful so on the day my car was visiting the dealership, the Fab Hub could pick me up at school first, then go get Zilla at her school a bit later than usual rather than picking up Zilla, coming back across town for me, then back to practically the same place again to drop me at a doctor’s appointment. That’s just silly.
3. Warmer weather on Friday and again today. I am not ready for the deep freeze of winter and we’ve had a couple of really chilly nights and early mornings. I’m happier for some warmer weather and some fresh air that doesn’t induce an asthma attack because it’s so cold it makes my lungs seize.
4. Warmer weather again. Am I running the risk of pulling a Clark here by using the same thing twice? Well, so be it. Warmer weather today means we can open the windows while we paint Kidzilla’s bedroom. Hopefully, this means a faster fume dissipation and faster drying time so we can get that job finished and her room back to normal before she has to get ready for school Sunday evening.
5. My Liebster Award from Lizzi. OK, I’m still a really new blogger so I had no idea, actually, what Lizzi was throwing my way but I figured it out. I think it’s awesome good fun and it made me all warm and fuzzy inside. As Lizzi said on her own blog about her Sunshine Award, it kind of feels like a Sally Field moment…”You like me…you really like me.” Kind of made me feel like part of the blogger gang. Post forthcoming.
6. Some rather wonderful blog friends. Last summer when I started this blog, I had no idea that anyone besides my Mother would ever read my blog. I am amazed to have found some lovely people through this blog and others that I read. Their wit, wisdom, and talent are a great part of each week. I am also thankful that this circle of Blog Buds continues to grow. See what I did there…buds…grow.
7. The Fab Hub is enjoying his IT cert classes and doing well in them. Having your job eliminated is lousy. Having said job in a field that you love suddenly ripped from under you is lousy. Not finding a new job to replace said job is beyond frustrating. When it became clear that a complete career change was in order for the Fab Hub, he went into it with vigor. I am grateful that he loves another area of interest enough to help ease the transition from his first love into whatever it is that’s coming next. And who knows? Maybe this change will allow him more time to pursue his first love on a different level.
8. I have lesson plans in place through Thanksgiving break for at least one of my courses. I would like to have it in place for all of them, but the weekend isn’t over yet. And one’s better than none.
9. Coffee. I know, I know, coffee makes like every list on this blog. It really does make me happy, though, and I am thankful that the Fab Hub nearly always has a steaming cup of it ready to go pretty much whenever I want one.
10. Some positive strides on the Kidzilla discipline and school behavior front. This probably deserves a post of its own at some point, but for now let’s suffice to say that the Fab Hub and I think our IST meeting at Zilla’s school this week will be a positive start toward some long-term benefits for her. She really loves school and we want to keep it that way. We’ve been working on skills and behaviors at home and we see some definite progress already. So, that’s the week. Perhaps an uneventful one in the larger scheme of things, but that’s OK. The next few weeks will be crazy enough with holidays approaching and multiple family gatherings to balance, so a quiet week is just fine by me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For such an uneventful time, you managed to fill your list in beautifully 🙂
As for your award, it’s always lovely when you get something like that, isn’t it?
It’s definitely nice to get the fuzzy feeling at being appreciated by our Blog buddies, isn’t it? 🙂
Hope you manage to finish the lesson plans with time to spare 🙂
Thanks, Katy. I guess it’s true that there are great moments even in the midst of the everyday.
Coffee is, indeed, awesome, and always deserves a spot! It is so amazing how blogging really brings people together who would have never met in real life.. Definitely something to be thankful for!
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend, Lisa!
It really is amazing. The meeting people through blogging thing, not the coffee. OK, coffee is amazing, too. 🙂
Have a good week, Stephanie!
A quiet week is indeed a real blessing to be thankful for. No drama, no fires to put out. I remember a time in my life where I longed for just one week like that! Now I have more of them and I find a “dull” “boring” life is quick likeable indeed! Kudos to you for making progress on the lesson plans and even more importantly with Kidzilla! 🙂 Wishing you another low key week ahead!
Thanks, Josie. Yes, low-key is kind of good because in the overall scheme of things, there is so much going on that no drama and no fires is a good thing.
Have a great week! 🙂
uneventful also means calm and together which is fabulous! Congrats on the Liebster! they can be fun to answer all those questions….I like reading what people have to say about themselves…fun!
Yes, it does look like fun. But Lizzi’s questions are wicked hard!
Duh! I want you to CONSIDER them 😉
(Because I’m mean like that 😉 But as with TToT, feel free to ignore or bend the rules – as we do, yaknow?)
Yes, considering them. Indeed I am. Mike’s were way easier.
I don’t know. It might not have been that exciting of a week, but I hear some good things. Car repairs not major, husband in school, daughter making progress all sounds really great. Good week for you!
Yes, that’s a good way to look at it – not overly exciting, but definite forward motion.
While not overly eventful, it wasn’t bad either. Good for you for counting the blessings that you did have. Enjoying what you are doing, getting ahead, having a plan in place, all of these become monumental if you don’t have them.
You are so right – when you hit that wall of “oh no why don’t I have my crap together?” it can be a major pain. So I’m trying to keep just enough ahead of the game to prevent that.
I think a week with little to no excitement sounds grand.
My husband made a big career change, but thankfully it was long ago, before we had kids. Good for your husband for doing something proactive to learn a new skill. And good for you for supporting him in it.
The warmer weather is great for the couple of days we’re getting it. The fewer days of winter coats and shivering cold the better.
Congrats on the Liebster! I never could have predicted the fun and friendship I would have when I started my blog. It’s marvelous.
I hope you are all able to come up with some workable, effective solutions for Kidzilla.
Seems to be the popular opinion – a week of not so much is a pretty good thing.
The career change is not something we could ever have predicted – although in hindsight, we often wonder if maybe we should have. But it’s senseless to live that way. He’s working toward what he hopes will be a good choice for our future. We’re just taking things one step at a time and seeing how they unfold. It’s frustrating at times, but we try to keep our eye on the positive. That’s one of the reasons I’m so enjoying the TToT community – so much positive focus and encouragement and fellowship. So glad to have found it!
Hey, hands up from another caffeine addict? I usually thrive on two cups a day and sort of look forward to it at tea time! Thanks for sharing!
Welcome to the support group, er I mean club! Coffee has great health benefits, right?
I’m thankful for warm weather and coffee too! I think quiet weeks are the best weeks sometimes 🙂
Coffee is a huge hit in my little circle of blog friends. And yes, a quiet week is not a bad thing. A nice break from the craziness.
I’m glad the car was okay in the end, and that the IST appointment went well. It’s so important for Zilla to carry on liking school, and lovely that you care about her perception and experience of it.
You TOTALLY belong. Especially in this group 😀 You’re part of our community now, and your contributions each week on the hop are valued and enjoyed. You totally deserve the award, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with those tricksy questions 😉
It’s so tough on the whole family when one of the adults is wrong-footed jobwise, for whatever reason. I’m so glad that you guys have an action plan and a way to manage it, and I wish you everything I can that it will go well and his qualification and subsequent job-seeking will be successful and worthwhile.
And a quiet week – bliss 😀
Yes, me too. The “check brake system” light popped on twice and I wasn’t messing around with that.
Thanks, Lizzi. I really love the TToT each week. Can’t tell you how much of a good thing it’s been for me right now. You understand, I know – life is full of crap sometimes and it isn’t always easy to keep a positive head about it and just forge ahead with gusto. The TToT each week is a good exercise in remembering that there is still some light.
Now, back to work on my Liebster questions…
Anytime you have to take your car for repairs, the dollar signs just start rolling, don’t they?
Unseasonably warm weather is both nice and weird. I feel like it’s some kind of trick the weather gods are pulling, and they have something heinous planned for us in a matter of days or weeks.
Glad your meeting with Kidzilla’s school went well. With everyone working together, she should have great success at school.
#7? Yeah, been there with my husband. It’s rough, rough, rough.
And congratulations on your Liebster! You are VERY deserving! VERY!
Yeah, the warm weather is a bit unsettling. Where we are, I’m certain it has much to do with the storms in the Midwest.
Rough doesn’t begin to describe how frustrated we are by all of this unemployment and career change nonsense right now. Please tell me it turns out great in the end, because lately we’re having a really hard time seeing the possibility.
Thanks for the congratulations – let’s hope I’m still deserving after I tackle Lizzi’s questions!
Perhaps not a major week, but it rather sounds like a good one… no? And coffee, yeah… coffee deserves all the tribute it can get.
All in all, yes, a pretty good week. Coffee…it gets my undying love and affection because I am pretty sure I would not have made it through college without it!
I love having “not much exciting” weeks even though yours is still waaaayyy more exciting than mine. 🙂
I’m with you on number 1. And number 9?? Note to self…only mine would be wine.
Off to read your Liebster post. I know, I know….mine’s coming. Eeep!
Stick around…it gets way less exciting around here. 🙂
I had to look back at my #9 to remember what in the world could be close to wine. Cracked myself up because I spent about two minutes trying to figure out how a steaming cup of wine would happen. I am THAT tired tonight. Off to bed.
Can’t wait for your Liebster!
A big blog buddy hug from me to you!
Thanks, May! Hugs are awesome.
It sounded like a nice full week to me! And hooray for Blog Buds! 🙂
Ha – it is always a full week around here!
