TToT – Another Busy Weekend
There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
Last weekend I struggled to find time to write my TToT in between all the things. And no, of course I didn’t write it before things got busy. That would have been much too logical. I finally ended up slipping in at the end of the weekend. This weekend, I find myself once again on the go. But I’ve figured out a few things. This week, I am coming to you from my trusty laptop at the back of the auditorium where Zilla is attending a Girl Scout workshop.
Go me.
So let’s call that thankful number one. I’m figuring out how to manage the busy life of my six year old. And I’m remembering to take into account our ADHD factor – hers and mine. That’s a huge thankful right there. A day on the go requires enough supplies to keep her busy in the car and me busy out of the car. It means having Zilla-friendly snacks with us in case what is provided isn’t on her safe list. It means remembering to charge my phone and bring a power cord.
This week we enjoyed a beautiful nighttime thunderstorm. Up here on Witch Mountain, storms are simply awesome – in the truest sense of the word. I can smell the electricity in the air outside the window, see the lightning as it crackles across the sky, feel the hair on my arms standing up just a bit. It’s even a bit frightening. But that’s one of the things I love about nature – there are elements of great power and in that power exists a perfect marriage of the terrifying and the sublime. I am thankful for the beauty and power of nature. Oh, and the trees in our neighborhood are starting to bloom – white and pink and purple trees line the streets. Spring is really here.
This is where the really cool photo of trees in bloom in the springtime would go if I had remembered to take the camera with me when I went for a walk. But I didn’t.
This new version of life continues to develop and I’m starting to feel a bit more settled. I am thankful that I’ve enjoyed some new business this week, as well as some new connections and opportunities. I am thankful for meeting deadlines and fulfilling obligations. I’m not entirely where I want to be, but I’m moving forward. I am a work in progress. I’m choosing to focus on the process and enjoy the journey. If I were only focused on the end goal, I already would have missed several unexpected opportunities that have turned out to be very good things. So I’m thankful that I am remembering to enjoy the scenery along the way.
I am thankful that this new version of life allows me to be available to do things like volunteer in Zilla’s school and chaperone field trips. This week we traveled to visit an aquarium and had a splendid day. Zilla was perfectly behaved (is it wrong to say “much to my surprise”?) and we have a day full of memories to share. She was a delightfully unobtrusive bus partner, too – read fifteen chapters of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and was as polite as could be. More thankfuls for all of that.
I most definitely don’t tell him enough, but I am thankful for my Fab Hub and all the things he does for us. He tells me to rest when he knows my RA is acting up and I need to. He covers Zilla duty when I need to go out for a tutoring session. He packs a cooler of snacks for the bus on field trip day…and then produces a last-minute replacement when I forget the cooler at home. He packs lunch notes for Zilla every day. He sets out my daily meds and sets up the coffee pot for me every morning. He carries the heavy stuff.
I may have said this before, but I am thankful for that “aaahhhh” moment at night when I change into pajamas.
That’s it for me. I’m going to move on to some other laptop tasks while the workshop afternoon continues.
Your turn: What have you been thankful for this week? What does spring look like in your part of the world? What has been keeping you busy?

Your hosts
The rotten looks none too pleased at your use of the cliche… I forgot to mention it cuz it seems like Im in an ugly place a lot lately, but thanks so much again for guest posting… It was really good. I appreciated it so much even if Im such an ingrate I forgot to mention it.
Yeah, that picture was perfect. Just struck me as funny.
Um, I don’t think you forgot to mention it – and I was happy to do it.
I think I was thinking I forgot cuz I wanted it in my TTOT
Ah. Well, motivating me to spew some words anywhere is thanks enough!
I slid in on a banana peel this week too! I’m glad you are busy with good and productive stuff. And really? Fab Hub packs a lunch note every day? That is SO CUTE! Hope you have another good and productive week. Maybe even another thunderstorm – we haven’t had one here yet, but I also love the thrill of them.
Yes, the Fab Hub packs Zilla a lunch note every day. He does a version of himself that goes with something that’s going on that day or something we’ve done recently. They’re pretty clever.
I don’t know that we have any thunderstorms on tap, but I do love them.
Have a great week and know I’m thinking about you as you head back to work!
Witch Mountain?! rather cool sounding place to live, if I may say so myself. And thunderstorms… I agree, so amazingly powerful demonstration of …er….power!
lol
good to hear about a good week.
Witch Mountain – what we dubbed our little hilltop here after we moved in and experienced our first thunderstorm that summer. And the wind up here? Crazy. Witch Mountain comes from the title of a movie I loved as a kid – Escape to Witch Mountain. Good old-fashioned 1970s cheese!
I pretty much wear my pajamas when I’m in my house. Come over, and we can wear pajamas together. Glad that you are progressing and feeling good about the progress. I love thunderstorms, too, but I feel that way–that admiration mixed with fear–in wind. I absolutely love wind. I’m thrilled by it. With the ocean, I’m way more scared and admiring.
I have “I’m at home” pajamas and then I have “I’m going to bed” pajamas. Different. 😀 Yes, let’s have a pajama date!
Wind makes me crazy – it totally irritates me. No idea why, but it always has.
I loved the Witch Mountain movie series too. Your husband does sound FAB. He should meet mine. Mine is also so understanding when I am in pain and helpful too. They must be brothers some how. LOL
Weren’t the Witch Mountain movies awesome???? Do you also remember The Cat from Outer Space?
We are both very blessed, Mary, and having a spouse who is understanding of chronic pain is a tremendous help.
Nothing like a good thunderstorm. I don’t have too many memories of the days when my parents were still married, but I will always remember sitting in the garage with my dad, watching the rain and lightening.
Glad you are seeing some progress with work, but I’ even more glad you are getting to do more things with Zilla. It’s a preciously short time that we can do such things with our kids.
Oh, sitting in the garage watching a storm is very cool…we usually watch from inside the back deck, but next storm we’ll have to remember to go down to the garage.
Having the time to be available for Zilla is priceless, Christine. I just said to the Hub last night that it’s worth every minute of frustration about anything else.
So your six year old has a complicated agenda too?
At work I’m responsible for the agenda of a 14 people team, much less hassle than her agenda…
Yes! And it’s amazing how suddenly it happened, too.
Love this linkup and wish I could find the time to join in. Escape to Witch Mountain remains one of my favorite books of all time, by the way! I love the way you described the thunderstorm.
Leslie, try doing it just a little bit each day – that often works for me and I know some others have tried that approach. Once you get started, it becomes easier to make sure to get it in! We’d love to have you join us!
Escape to Witch Mountain is awesome! Now I kind of want to check my public library to see if they have it!
Nothing beats supportive husband, they’re worth their weight in gold! I’m so happy you had some fun time out and about with Zilla and her class, and even though you’ve been busy, you could be busy with your daughter!
I hope you had a great weekend relaxing!
Stephanie, these wonderful men in our lives are indeed worth their weight in gold!
We definitely had a good time and you hit it right on the head – being WITH Zilla is the absolute best reward. As for relaxing…well, we were busy straight through Saturday, but we all took Sunday off and spent the day doing absolutely nothing but relaxing. As my Mom said, “good for the soul”!
Hey, Lisa. You are late posting and I am later commenting. It feels good to be organized. I love that you talked about enjoying the journey. I don’t exactly know what my goals are. I just love the connections and the comments. We’ll see where it leads.
Hi, Val. Yes, I was late (again). So much going on lately! And I am not yet through reading and commenting…about halfway there.
I tend to get stuck on the idea that I’m not where I want to be. That’s one of the reasons my One Word for this year is Progress – I have to remember that progress is a good thing, not only the end result. In fact, I’m learning more every day that progress may just be better.
Oh I just love all your thankfuls Lisa!! And I’m completely and thoroughly impressed you wrote this while in the workshop! Storms… aren’t they simply magnificent? Nature is so powerful… and peaceful all at once.
YAY for field trips and your new work which btw- what IS it?
Thankful that you are being intentional about everything in your life, it seems. THAT is lively richly, my friend. Good for YOU!!!
Hi, Chris! I’m pretty impressed that I wrote my post in the workshop, too! I learned from the previous weekend that being present at these events is a whole lot of downtime for parents/troop leaders – at least in many cases. So after having been caught unawares and unoccupied, I decided to be proactive. I also did my share of chatting with other parents and leaders who were there, but still. Go me.
Nature is a perfect paradox, isn’t it? Amazing.
My new work…well, my favorite way to describe it is “living life on my own terms.” 😀 I’m doing private tutoring and some freelance writing and editing and perhaps even a little transcription work. A little hodge-podge, if you will.
Thank YOU for saying I’m being intentional about my life. I hope so. That is my intent and it is why I changed my blog tagline – I want it to reflect this new version of life. To paraphrase Thoreau, I don’t want to reach the end of my life and find out that I had not lived. It was (still is) a huge gamble, but every day I am shown that it was absolutely the right choice.
