TToT – Hiatus
Apparently, I’m on hiatus.
Not even kidding. Look back at my blog calendar since June and you will see a significant lack of posting. The TToT still makes it in each week, but lately that’s about it.
Oh, I have ideas…loads of them. Drafts, too. Half-written, abandoned, “meh, nobody will want to read this” kind of drafts. Few, if any, have (or will) see the light of day. I miss the link-ups that have become favorites, but thinking about getting back into them feels…hard. So I don’t.
So let’s just call it a hiatus. A summer hiatus, maybe.
Because the other option was shutting down the blog and quitting the Internet completely for ten different reasons. But I like the TToT, and if I quit the Internet, that goes away, so…
Let’s get to it. But it’s going to be the sort of TToT you get after I’ve forgotten it’s the weekend, spent the morning out at the mountain, had lunch and a shower, and am now desperately fighting the urge to take a nap. The urge to just say “ah, mañana….” is great, but I think we all know that won’t happen, either.
Onward…
I am thankful that my Hub is sweet. He poured himself a cup of coffee earlier this week and ended up giving it to me. It was the last coffee in the house until someone hit the store, but he gave it to me anyway.
I am also thankful that when we are not in need of a store run and have plenty of coffee, he can easily be talked into making a pot. Because he makes THE BEST coffee on the planet. Ask anyone who’s had a cup. It’s true.
I am thankful for beautiful summer days yesterday and today, some time outside with my family, and some great raptor sightings. We enjoyed a short but lovely trip to our CSA farm yesterday and a trip to our mountain today.
I am thankful for our CSA and the awesome fresh produce we get from them. I don’t have to think hard about what’s in season – just show up and pick up and I plan my meals around whatever we get. Eggplant chips with za-atar – delicous! These taste really great with some garlic scape pesto, too.
Speaking of vegetables, I am thankful that my corn smut allergy has been relatively minor so far this summer. *holds breath, knocks wood, and all the other things*
I am thankful for some new work leads (and results) lately. Still hoping for these and others to continue to develop, but it’s a start.
I am thankful that Zilla is un-busy this month. I’m glad she loved all the summer programs she had going on in July (and WHY were they ALL in July anyway??) and it was good to have some quiet days with everyone out of the house except me and the Rottens. But I’m glad she has this whole month to be on a more relaxed schedule until school starts.
I am thankful that the Rottens keep me company when I’m home by myself. They are helpful little buggers.
I am thankful for Clark’s negative-G challenge or G-force challenge or anti-gravity challenge. Posting my morning weight on the web for all to see? Yikes. OK, I really only post the last digit and the decimal, but still. But it’s helpful. Ten pounds down since start of summer isn’t a bad thing.
I’m thankful for Zilla. For so many reasons and in so many ways. Period.
And the Hub. Him, too. Ditto.

Your turn – what are you thankful for this week?
Is it back to school time for you or do you have summer break time left? What do you do when your brain and your blog take an unauthorized hiatus? Do you think my Rotten Cats are cute? Does anyone even read these questions?
You know the drill – share ’em or link ’em!
Your hosts
I read your questions and glad you haven’t decided to quit the Internet altogether.
🙂
Happy International Cat Day.
Haha – I’m glad you read them, Kerry! They make me laugh when I add them. 😀
I’m really glad you decided not to quit the Internet! I love reading your posts. I always think someday I’m going to join in on this TToT fun. It is back to school time for us. My boys go back on Wednesday. YIKES! And yes, I think your cats are cute 🙂
Aw, thanks, Jean! And YES YES YES you should join the TToT – it’s the best thing ever in blog land!
Back to school in August makes me really sad. But happy new school year to all of you!
Yeah, the Rottens are pretty cute – good thing, too, because they drive me crazy! 😀
who knew the rottens had such a pretty face!? I gotta come back and read… running out of time today… but wanted to stop in until I could get back… my blog has been ttot and sss for weeks… ridiculous I know what youre talking about! see you later!
The Rottens are pretty cute – especially Cat Three. He’s particularly sweet-looking. I really would like to get in the SSS, but each week, I find myself saying “oh, I missed it again? OK…” 😀
You are rocking that gravity challenge. I am content to stay relatively the same this summer. With the back and forth travel and vacations every other week, it’s hard to stay balanced. I’m waiting for Fall to minus gravitational pull. Enjoy the rest of the hazy, crazy days of summer.
The kind of routine change that comes with summer definitely makes things like the g-challenge, well, a challenge! We’re pretty home-based, though, so that’s not much of a thing, at least not for me.
PS. I want to talk about Midnight. I’m hosting my book club a week from Friday and I have some questions I’d like your input on. Only thing I’m in NC and the questions are in NJ. So I’ll email a couple to you when I get back to get your take on them. Or feel free to pontificate your point of view of the book. Thanks, Lisa.
Ping me anytime. I’d be happy to chat about it! I rarely pontificate, though, so don’t expect too much!
I’m glad you’re not quitting, but yeah, we need time off sometimes! I’m so glad you’re enjoying your summer. I feel like this year is the best summer weather ever and I’m glad I also decided to take a break. It’s fun just sitting outdoors and reading some of my favorite blogs before I jump in the pool!
I don’t know if I agree about the weather – way too hot and humid here for my taste. But on the days when it’s just beautiful? Yeah, I’ll take those. I much prefer the cooler fall days. Now how can I get those days to happen in the summer months when life is a bit slower? Now THAT would be awesome!
Glad you were able to get so much fresh air this week.
I know what you’re talking about with the posting. I have been working on one post for at least 3 weeks now. There just hasn’t been time. I’ not fretting, though. The world won’t end if I don’t post. Shoot, there won’t even be a collective sigh. Just write when we can. It’s not like we’re doing this for a paycheck.
Speaking of paycheck, I hope that work you got over the summer continues to pay off and the business grows.
Nice work on the g-challenge. I have made exactly zero headway.
I think that’s the thing that rubs me wrong, Christine – that I don’t really fret about it. It just…is. So I then decide it means it’s time to pack it in. I have no idea. And yeah, definitely not doing the blog thing for the paycheck!
I am hoping that the work and leads I’ve found continue to grow and that a few new things work out, too. Praying hard and crossing all the things. Because really? It’s time.
As I said to Kristi, I’m not exactly holding my breath on the g-challenge just yet – let’s see if it sticks or if it’s just a momentary dip.
Never ever quit without checking with me first. Deal?
I’m thankful for meditative moments, catch in the yard with the girls, and hugs, also. Also, being able to wrap my arms around someone I’ve missed so much. I’m thankful for John Mayer songs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, too.
Haha – OK, deal. 😀
Those are some really sweet thankfuls, Eli. Event he Cinnamon Toast Crunch!
Gravity is taking its toll on me, and I’ve been worse about that challenge than I have been about blogging (and that’s saying something.) I hope to be back to better participation with both next month. Way to go, you, though! Maybe with your example, I will learn how to fly (or at least have less gravitational pull), too. 🙂
You know, I’m highly skeptical about the lack of gravitational pull – I never truly want to believe it because so often it just goes back the other way! 😀 We’ll see what Monday morning brings…
I’m waiting to see if September brings me a better blogging perspective or if I just need to rethink the whole thing. Who knows?
A hiatus is fine, but quitting isn’t an option. I would wither away without you.
Aww…that’s sweet. ❤ Thank you.
I agree… with all… glad you’ve chosen to join us in our little morning…. (sorry, I’m demonstrating that one need never grow up, a part of me is still giggling over ‘corn smut’…)
lol
it’s not so much a matter of ‘giving up/not giving up’ the internet and blogging and such, as Christine points out, ‘it’s where you are at the moment’
there’s something strange (about this strange place), because we slow down our activity (online) a part of us wants to make us think that the whole thing can just go away (and, the real threat there, the people online, too).
I’m of the opinion that no, even when your rate of activity changes, the friendships don’t instantly evaporate… like waking from a dream.
We’re all still here.
You know, that’s the truth, Clark. The real threat is the loss of the people, the friendships. I wouldn’t want that at all. I like Christine’s thinking and isn’t that true of life? You have to just be where you are at the moment. Deep, really.
Corn smut is always funny. Never fails to get a fantastic response from people when it comes up in conversation – laughter, surprised silence, confusion…it’s all good. It’s a real thing, though – but why we have to call it smut, I’ll never tell you. It is what it is. (And it’s kind of gross, actually.”
My youngest is a huge coffee addict so I rarely have to make my own pot of coffee. The downside is we sometimes get caught short – he’s used to me having a lot on hand but the sales lately haven’t been so great that I’ve stocked up.
Nothing worse than running out of coffee…
We all need to take a break now and again, but please don’t quit!!!
Good for you on the weight loss, especially this time of year (the ice cream season) !
Haha – I saw your Barbie post with all the ice cream! Ice cream happens. I might like some for dinner.
