TToT – The Dance of the SGV
I need to go lie down. Seriously.
I was on my way out the door to Zilla’s school to volunteer in the library today and all of a sudden…sick. Blah. Not the best way to start off a list of thankfuls, is it?
But let’s go with that for a second. I needed to let the librarian know I was about to bail out on her at the last minute and e-mail wasn’t the way to go. I called and got the secretary in Zilla’s building (let’s call her Fran) in person, not a voice mail. Thankful. Fran said she would deliver the message right away. Thankful. And when I did get in touch with the librarian via e-mail later, she assured me that the library had plenty of parent helpers and not to worry. I am thankful that I did not cause a major disruption by bailing at the last minute.
But I have to give another nod to Fran for going a bit out of her way, too. I volunteer during a couple of first grade class periods, one of which is Zilla’s, of course. I absolutely did not want my girl to walk into the library expecting to see me, find that I wasn’t there and wonder why.
I asked Fran if there was a way she could get a message to the classroom teacher to tell Zilla what happened. She said the class was actually walking down the hall and did I want to speak to Zilla myself. Yes. But NO! Disrupt the flow of Zilla’s day? Never a good idea. That kid needs her focus and her routine. I asked Fran to just make sure that somehow Zilla got word by the time she had library period. After school, Zilla told me that Fran delivered the message to her personally when she arrived in the library. Zilla said she was worried, but felt better when Fran explained it. She could have just called the classroom, but she didn’t. She went in person and put my child at ease. Thankful thankful thankful.
I am not thankful that my stomach feels blah. But I’m quite thankful that the Hub is on dinner duty and I don’t need to worry about anything for the evening. He’s a good one. I am thankful that Zilla is understanding and has been quiet and helpful this afternoon. She’s a good one, too.
I am thankful for all the great connections and conversations that have come through this blog and the groups of people I’ve encountered the last couple of weeks. Truly. I am thankful for friendships of all kinds, both old and new.
I’m thankful for a lot of other stuff…good productivity in the writing world and positive feedback on a lot of it, new ideas, helpful information in other areas of life, a cozy sweatshirt, cats who know I feel lousy and snuggle up to keep me warm, hugs from Kidzilla.
Loads. Trust me.
But with that, I must take my leave. I really don’t even think I can dance for the SGV, given the uncertain state of my stomach. They’ve generously offered to dance for me and offer a bye week. The Rotten Cats will hold down the fort.
I will be around to read and comment when I’m not huddled under the covers feeling like ick.

Your hosts
bummer! Feel better! And never worry there is always rule 75. 3 subsection 6 f that says in the event you are too ill to dance the virgins will gladly wait for a better day.
Oh I’m trying. This is icky and I’m only still on here because I’m waiting for my little bibliophile to finish the chapter she’s reading in her current book and turn off her light so I can do the same.
That’s the subsection I couldn’t remember…glad you knew it. Yes, the virgins were happy to give me a bye this week.
Oh hey, you’re FRIST!
FRIST!
She beat you by a nose…
A very petite, cute, perhaps even pert nose btw…ahem.
Damnit!
🙂
Blergh. Feel better soon, and thanks for your input earlier. Hope the ginger beer and crackers helped. WTG Fab Hub and AmazingZilla for being so lovely and letting you rest 🙂
‘Fran’ sounds like a treasure.
She is. It takes a particular personality to be in a job like that – secretary in the office of a huge school. She’s good and on top of things.
Ooooh, I’m sorry. That’s no good, no good at all! I hope you feel better soon!
No, definitely no good. I’m up for the first time since last night and answering comments because I was tired of being in the bed. Still feel pretty lousy, though. I thought I could get a post out or some reading…not so much.
Praying you feel better quickly . . .
Thanks, Crystal. Me, too!
I don’t think a dance is even necessary. You totally got 10 in there.
Hope you are getting lots of rest and are back to feeling your old self very soon.
Good, because I don’t think I could dance right now if I tried. I want to read your post, but I think I have to wait a bit for reading.
Hope you get well soon…
Loved Fran for her kind generosity 🙂
It’s the little things that matter I guess….
Oh thank you, Pooja. I’m working on it.
Fran is awesome and very good at the little things. They add up.
I hope you’ll get better soon.
Thank you, Romi!
Feel better soon! Enjoy hub taking care of you and those kitty snuggles as much as you can.
They are taking good care of me, Jen. And I’ve had all three cats on the bed with me for most of the day. They keep my feet warm.
Lisa, hope that you’re feeling better……and the library sounds like an excellent one to volunteer at. I’ll be responding to the Sisterhood tag tomorrow!
The library is a good place to volunteer, Michelle. Better than cafeteria duty, that’s for sure!
I’m working on feeling better and looking forward to your sisterhood post!
Sorry your feeling poorly, Lisa. Nothing worse than stomach issues. The personal message delivered to Zilla was COMPASSIONATE act. Tiny things, so important. When you’re sick there’s nothing better than a comfy sweatshirt and warm socks. Take care of yourself.
I agree – nothing is worse than stomach. I hate that.
That was a compassionate act, definitely. And we made sure to say that she could have called the room, but went in person to make sure Zilla knew and was OK. Definitely.
I am in my cozy clothes, warm socks, and multiple cats to help.
I hope you feel better soon. Also…I think I need video of these dancing cats.
Thanks, Erin. Dancing cats? What dancing cats?
trust you feel better soon,
…there goes Lizzi with that language problem again! (I bet she meant to type ‘ginger ale’…which is a pretty good idea).
Thanks, Clark. I have had copious amounts of ginger ale. And crackers.
So sorry to hear you’re under the weather Lisa! Hope it is short lived.
The picture of the Rotten Cats – depending on point of view…either very cute… or very scary! lol
I would definitely like to feel better.
The cats are definitely creepy from certain angles… especially when all the are together! I sleep with one eye open.
I hope you feel better soon.
So do I! Thanks, Kristi.
Oh honey!!! I hope you feel better!!! Love that Fran. 🙂
Poor YOU. So glad hubs is on dinner duty and he helps out. I do hope this moves fast through you, whatever it is!
HUGS!!
He does help out. And he and Zilla are taking good care of each other. Feeling a bit better this morning. Hope it’s the end of this!
What a nice lady at Zilla’s school! I bet it was a big relief for you knowing that your daughter won’t be worried unnecessarily. A big yay for a supportive hubby and daughter! I hope you’ll feel better again, soon! Hugs to you, Lisa!
She is one of many nice people there, Stephanie. I feel confident that she is in good hands there always. it definitely put my mind at ease.
Working on feeling better. Hub and Zilla have managed to keep the house in relative order while I’ve been down. That’s a plus. Hugs back and have a great week!
No yerfing on the rugs!
Hope you’re feeling better. Nothing worse than the stomach bug.
Fran is a dear. Isn’t it nice when there are people at your child’s school who know your child so well?
Those kitty faces are NOT rotten. SPOILED rotten, maybe (she says as she types this with a 15 lb Fletcher lying ON HER FOOT and won’t move him, even though she needs desperately to go to the bathroom).
Feel better, friend!
I did not yerf on the rug. Stomach bugs are definitely the worst. I think I’d rather have almost any other kind of temporary sick than this. 😛
That is one of the things I love about Zilla’s school; it is a true community. Some of the people there have been there since my sister went to the same school. It’s that kind of place and it’s a good thing.
My cats are SO spoiled it’s ridiculous. And I might actually be the one primarily responsible, even though I claim to hate them. Shh. Don’t tell.
Working on it. I’m upright AND showered today. That’s big. Going to try some food.
Not sure if you noticed, but you linked up sixth. Do you know what that means?
Nooo…should I?
Seriously your cats look so much like mine. 🙂
But that is a very good list of thankful. I hope you rest up and feel better soon.
They really do…I remember you pics. I’ve been resting and starting to feel more human. Thanks!
Good list. Love those perfectly timed moments. No machine, but a person to talk to. Girly is a schedule hound as well. I loved how she handled the disruption.
Thanks, Beccalynn. We had a bit of a behavior bump that afternoon which could have been about the change in plans – not uncommon for Zilla – but it could have been much worse. She’s growing up!
I will admit that there are some times I actually hope for voice mail when I have to make a call, but in this case I was very grateful to get the real live person.

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon 🙂
Thanks, Dannii. I’m working on it!
